"The Sanders family includes descendents of a full-blood Cherokee woman named Susannah and her white husband, Mitchell Sanders. Susannah did not die until 1851 and is enumerated on the Drennan Roll of that year in Going Snake District... Dr. [Emmett] Starr's errors in this family mainly consist of missing persons, several of whom have been added herein. However, the typographical errors in his book are greatest in the presentation of the SANDERS family; this has caused misidentification on a number of instances of persons who use his 'History [of the Cherokee]' but do not refer to his original notes..." ---David Keith Hampton, 'Cherokee Mixed Bloods', page 400, paragraph 1 and 3. --------------------------------- Brings words and photos together (easily) with PhotoMail - it's free and works with Yahoo! Hi Sharon, Your related surnames picqued my interest. I found five (5) Susan Sanders in the book 'Cherokee Mixed Bloods' by David Keith Hampton. Can you tell me a little bit more about her? He focus's on the Sanders line in pages 400-478. Thanks. Jerri Direct descendent of Maria Ross & Jonathan Mulkey, Adeline Goins and Lewis A. Hi Susan, No Brights in Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia or Alabama. Many of the names in the 'Those Who Cried, the 16,000' are not Anglo. Do you know their tribal names? Jerri --------------------------------- What are the most popular cars? Find out at Yahoo! Autos

Osiyo Glee, Grandma and other friends, Yes, the list is quiet. I guess we're all gearing up for Spring! :) I recently received Phillip Mulkey Hunt's book titled 'Mulkeys of America' if anyone has any Mulkey questions. I also obtained a book called 'Those Who Cried, the 16,000' if anyone needs a look-up. I have not gotten anything from this list for a very long time. Is there something wrong or did I get put off the list without my knowledge? Glee There is nothing wrong except that people are not active for some reason or other. I don't think people are working on their genealogy much right now. grandma

Got a giggle out of this birth announcement. Thought some on this list might, too. Vinita Indian Chieftain, February 7, 1884: A little stranger, feminine in gender, put in an appearance on Wednesday last, at the residence of our boss carpenter, Darius E. Ward, who is doing what he can to prevent the total extinction of the Cherokee race. (newspaper microfilm, Oklahoma Historical Society). Genealogy Info: The stranger would be Clara E. Ward, born on or close to January 29, 1884, listed as his 5th child in the book Springplace Moravian Mission and the Ward Family of the Cherokee Nation, by Muriel H. Wright. Emmet Starr does not list her in Dariusâ biographical sketch page, probably because she died before age 16. Darius continued to do what he could, having 8 more children from 1885 â 1901. R. I am in desperate need of help. I am looking for any information about my gggrandma Sylvia (BLACK) Kern. I don't have any information on her family. This saddens me because all I have is a picture of her, it feels like we have no past. My gggrandmother Sylvia (Silva) BLACK b. 1855 was a Cherokee, from Attala county, Mississippi. My mom told me that she was "adopted" by a doctor.
