I haven't got much to go on. My aunt has more info than I do...she is sending it to me. My grandfather was born in Oklahoma and it's his family that was cherokee and my grandmother was choctaw. From what I understand my grandfather was not on the roll because back then people were ashamed to admit to being of indian descent. So I'm trying to find anything that will lead me to my GG grandfather whowas full blooded cherokee. Michelle Alli <iamcheroke@gmail.com> wrote: Is that your only line of Whites? Where have you found them so far or where did they end up at? I have White's in my family tree too. Off the top of my head they were in Mo. (as far as I've gotten back to) but ended up in Okla. I don't have either name that you listed though. Alli :) > Hello everyone, > I'm in the process of trying to find my cherokee ancestors. I have a question. According to my great-uncles's app for a ss card, completed in abt 1938 he indicates that he was born "Cheek AL". Much research finds no town in AL by that name now or in the past. BUT I did find a Cheek Reservation (Cherokee) in Montgomery County, AL near the GA line which fits into the other family history I have researched. Additionally, I have always been told that thru my father's line (WILKINS), we are part Native American, but no one ever stated if it was Cherokee, Choctaw, Caddo or what. If Uncle Ernie was born on a Cherokee Reservation (dob abt 12-15-1887 ish), wouldn't that pretty much provide some verification of my findings and indicate the probability I am part Cherokee? Has anyone heard of this reservation and can furnish any details about it? This I do know, we are definitely part Native American because I have photos of my great aunt and her children and they appear to be full blood. One thing you need to keep in mind when reading the word reservation, sections of land that were given to individuals were often times called reservations. If you look here http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/tribes/reservations/index.htm you will see what reservations I was able to find in 1908 and there is nothing listed for Alabama or Georgia. being born there wouldn't indicate either way, non or Cherokee citizenship. There were many whites living among the Cherokee in that time period. however, it's a lead and I'd follow up more. Find out if he had a family association with the Cheeks. Perhaps you can find out who owned that parcel and trace their membership. They may have some info. on their enrollment forms that might indicate a lead to one of your surnames. good luck, Debbie ----- Original Message ----- From: <copskid@bellsouth.net> To: <CherokeeGene-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 09, 2006 11:15 AM Subject: [CherokeeGeneCommunity] CHEEK RESERVATION ALABAMA - WILKINS >I have a question. Barbara, Sarcoid is not only related to Meditteran races, but to Blacks. If you have any blacks in the line it could have also come from there. IN fact, on the West Coast most M.D.s think it is only a black disesae. They don't see many Portuguese or Italian patients like back east.
