    1. Another broken promise!
    2. Sorry--Couldn't find the other address--I felt this was too important to wait. We need to support our brothers and sisters and Mother Earth. Despite the fact that the United Nations has ordered the United States to "freeze", "desist" and "stop" actions being taken, or threatened to be taken, against the Western Shoshone Peoples of the Western Shoshone Nation, the United States is planning to detonate a 700 ton explosion on June 2, 2006 at the Nevada Test Site, which is on Western Shoshone land. We need you to help STOP this test! The Western Shoshone remain the most bombed nation on the world, experiencing more than 1000 test explosions over the last 50 years, and June 2's planned "Divine Strike" will add to this history. You can help CANCEL the bomb by making your voice heard. Here's what you need to do! Join the Western Shoshone National Council, the Western Shoshone Defense Project, and Shundahai Network call for the United States Government to cancel the test immediately. 3. I finally got Angie King on the phone today. She said basically that the Tenn. Bureau of Investigation was working on the case and agrees that getting the Cherokee Nation, east and west, involved is a wonderful idea. Their angle is to try to prove ownership of the statue the get it return in that way. My biggest fear is that is will disappear again before the current holders of the statue can be told/warned/advised to not let it get away. I am not sure of who to contact within the Cherokee structure but I'm hoping that some of you will help us get the ball rolling on this project A good friend, Donna Delgadillo, advises getting the folks at NAGPRA involved. This is the Native American Graves Protection Repatriation Act. She also recommends trying to learn if there is a American Indian Movement (AIM) in the state or region. I'd venture to guess that once the Nation's leaders learn of the find they will do what they can to see it returned. For those of you who aren't aware,I got an email from the nephew of the man who carved the statue. He said that his uncle would be flattered but wonder what all the fuss was about. He'd always intended for it to be on Nancy's grave site but had sold it to Mr. Farmer for his wife's grave (Maggie). The nephew agrees that it should be placed on the grave. Maggie Farmer was a Walker by birth. This week's Polk County News article goes thru more of the history of the search for the statue. Any of you who know who to contact within the governing structure of the eastern and western Cherokee bands could you please tell me so I can contact them and let them know what is going on. As stated earlier the most immediate problem of making SURE the current owners know there is a movement underway to get it, somehow, returned. Scotty, let me know what you find out from your friend. Joseph's brother John and Susannah did. Emmet Starr sure has caused a bunch of trouble with his book. There is pleanty of proof that John fathered children that Joseph has been given credit for but you have to look for it. See a book called "Whites Among the Cherokees" It info is taken from the GA archives. Glee

    3. Judge John Martin was not Joseph Martin's brother but his nephew. The Cherokee Judge was fathered by John Martin who was the brother of Joseph. I guess all the Johns are confuseing. The Judge was named after his father. The Judge's mother was Susannah Emory. Judge John Martin had two wives at the same time they were sisters and they lived in two different houses several miles apart. He fathered children with both at the same time. There are books out there on his descendants with his two wives. I think that most or all of them ended up in OK. There should be a lot about this family on line somewhere. Do a google search for the good Judge and his many offspring. Glee ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joyce G. 3. Have you checked out the 4 Hembree Data Projects? William Emory and his children are covered quite extensively in the Abraham project. www.rootsweb.com/~tnmcmin2 RECORDS scroll down to "H" Susannah Emory was never in a relationship with Joseph Martin. The only evidence we have found is that she was in a liason with Cpt. John Stuart of Fort Loudon fame, Richard Fields then Judge JOHN Martin...Joseph's brother. I'm interested in what you learn...keep me informed...OK? 1. Got Dawes?
    2. J. Lynn
    3. To see what an actual Dawes application looks like go to: http://www.cherokeeresearch.com/ Scroll down to the bottom left and click on "Lewis A. Mulkey". This is my GG-Grandfather. Although these copies aren't the best, you an be sure that NARA will send you more easily readable ones. When you order your Dawes packet from NARA in Ft. Worth, it will contain copies of original docs like birth, death affadavits and marriage certificates. Also there may be copies of original letters in your ancestor's handwriting. It's worth every penny! I encourage everyone to order theirs! Jerri ~A Cherokee Mulkey Descendent --------------------------------- Blab-away for as little as 1¢/min. 2. Glee, I was told that you are "well versed" on the Martin families of Tennessee. I am trying to track family of my Great Grandfather, Lewis/Louis Martin born 03 Sep 1877. Very little is known of my Martin family line. Louis/Lewis Martin, as it is told, fled Tennessee right around 1900 after a gun fight where it was thought that he killed his opponent. He and a friend, William Nathan Bailey, fled Tennessee together and landed in Oklahoma Indian Territory where he married Maudie R. Green in about 1905 and William Nathan Bailey married Maude's sister, Effie. Louis Martin died 19 Mar 1917 in Texanna Oklahoma but the death record indicates that his widow knew nothing of his parents. On the only enumeration that I find him on in Oklahoma he states a birthplace of Ohio but we have long suspected that was possibly to protect his "hiding" status. Upon his death, Maude reported that Louis/Lewis Martin was actually born in Tennessee. Family lore indicates that Louis/Lewis Martin was contacted by family in Tennessee prior to his death and told that he could come home as the man he shot didn't die. He supposedly declined as he had already married and begun a family in Oklahoma, IT. Are you aware of any Martin families with a similar story or Martin families with a Lewis/Louis Martin that has missing information. Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Kevin in California

    3. Susannah Emory and Joseph Martin never had any children together! 3. I'm very fuzzy on Victoria's line. I'm relying heavily on others research. I believe the Martin side runs back like this: Victoria Rogers Martin>Joseph Lynch Martin>John Martin>Joseph Martin and Susannah Emory. Her Rogers side seems to go: Victoria>Lucy Brown Rogers>Thomas Lewis Rogers>John Rogers>John Rogers and Elizabeth Emory. I haven't ruled out the children of John Rogers and Jennie Due as offering a possibility for an unrecorded late marriage. They seem to fall in the right age bracket. I'm not sure where they were living by this point in time. With our Rogers that connect to the Corderys, we don't seem to have information on anyone old enough to be a likely candidate. -----Original Message----- From: Joyce G.
