    3. LOL Ya almost sound like me. When I started researching, I had to have my mom drive me to the LDS FHC (I was 13) then shortly after I got a computer & Dan found me, I lived on a few blocks away from the FHC....now I live 45 min's away...I'm still inquisitive, just lack desire to drive so far LOL Ancestry use to be great......not suppose much now :o( -----Original Message----- From: Edith Humble [mailto:eadiene7374@gmail.com] Sent: Monday, January 12, 2015 5:47 PM To: Alli :); cherokeegene@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] ancestry I'm glad to know I'm not the only one upset with ancestry. I had someone that posted that mom's grandmother had remarried in OK and she lived with her daughter right here at home. In fact, she never remarried at all Plus I think that ancestry has some sort of bug because I've entered my info and then the next time I go in it's different. I'm a member and even went World wide but not using it much. They make it very difficult in many ways, not listing it alphabetically which means you have to hunt thru all those names to find your info. However, since they've bought out all the other informative sites what other resources do you have? The answer is the library. Our library has great resources but I'm too laid back to go and research. My age, I think, but when I started I was only a block away from the library and they stayed open on Thursday until nine. Plus I was younger then and more inquisitive. Adiene

No find a grave doesn't charge, unless you subscribe to join...at least it was for me, but I'm just mad over the crap that gets put into family trees & that 99% of the stuff on Ancestry can't be looked at for free EVEN when its marked AS FREE......And why Fold3 is bought by them...i liked them. -----Original Message----- From: cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Dan M via Sent: Monday, January 12, 2015 11:12 AM To: 'Kathy Burns'; cherokeegene@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] ancestry Not for find a grave, but for the archive connected to find a grave - Ancestry has filtered in to the adds, also it has been said, any thing on find a grave belongs to ancestry now. 3. Well, when I went to school we were required to not only take Texas History but American History as part of the graduation requirements. I loved it, some didn't. What is so bad is that some of the locals have written books or articles and obviously spoke to the wrong people. Living in the rural area we pretty much knew each other and our parents and grandparents and others talked about the area before we were born. One writer wrote about a ghost woman and child who had been seen on Jack Creek which I laughed at. Jack Creek is just behind me and believe me no one in this area has seen this. I had two uncles who drank too much (much to mom's distress) and men who took advantage of getting them drunk and writing checks on the bank accounts. Believe me, as often as they drove down that road to get their booze at all times of the day and night, they would have seen it and we would have heard about it. The bad part of my mom's family is because both sets of grandparents descended from NA bloodlines, they didn't handle liquor too well. When I found other members of my grandpa's uncle's family researchers, among the first thing they would comment on was this inability to drink. I tried to tell my kids not to drink too much as they could very well have even more of a problem as my dad's ancestors had NA connections too. You can't believe everything you hear, it has to be documented. -----Original Message----- From: Alli :) via Sent: Saturday, November 08, 2014 9:56 PM To: 'Edith Humble' ; cherokeegene@rootsweb.com fSubject: Re: [CherokeeGene] Lore, Pride and Documentation I think I’ve learned more genealogy & history doing genealogy then I ever was taught in school :0) My hubby & my dad worked with a guy of the last name Beaver can’t remember where his family is from From: Edith Humble [mailto:eadiene7374@gmail.com] Sent: Saturday, November 8, 2014 8:27 PM To: Alli :); cherokeegene@rootsweb.com Cc: Dan M Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] Lore, Pride and Documentation My grandmother's great uncles married into a family named Buffalo. Just think of that impact on the Natives and on foot, no place to hide on the open flat lands. The burning ash comes falling , the sun goes out and they cant see where to go, they cant breath - and it must have been horrid. I used to live right in Yellowstone. My stepdad was their electrical engineer. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/12/131218-yellowstone-supervolcano-eruption-magma-reservoir/ You can document one of the reasons people moved, was volcanoes ;} Dan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alli :)" <iamcheroke@gmail.com> To: "'Dan M'" <mygen2@d-matney.com>; <cherokeegene@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 08, 2014 10:07 AM Subject: RE: [CherokeeGene] Lore, Pride and Documentation > Yes I've seen the price of gold. 3. But some names are spelled close to the way they sounded as well as being brought over..... But is there any place overseas (back then) named Mississippi? Finding the origination of names is always cool -----Original Message----- From: cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Dan M via Sent: Saturday, November 8, 2014 10:28 AM To: cherokeegene@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] Lore, Pride and Documentation Indians or pioneers? Never hear of a true Indian named Mississippi? ;) I would like to hear about these names. Once we ran a thread about surname and I started a web page, then, it got lost. The web page is still there. 3. Yes I've seen the price of gold. Cost me more to move there to try & get some then it would to buy it. Or about the same, depending all what I need. Too many earthquakes for my taste, too much smog for me, a lot of rude people (though that's where I'm at too so its not a mark against them) A lot of them moved here & jacked up the prices of housing & rent, built a lot of overly fancy homes & IF they lived in them it might have been for a year before complaining & leaving & the prices are still WAY more than our little Ag area can afford, so they sit empty. There are some nice areas if the smog wasn't there. Been all over (driving truck) & spent some time in San Diego. Got to see the Exxon ValDiez (sp) when it was docked for repairs after the oil spill & got to see Mirmar (Top Gun).....both were cool. Got family & ex-in-law family & friends there......would visit, wouldn't live there. We have mines here too, so I could just stay put :0) -----Original Message----- From: cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Dan M via Sent: Saturday, November 8, 2014 10:46 AM To: cherokeegene@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] Lore, Pride and Documentation And what is wrong with CA?
