Hi Susan, As of now, I don't have any of the names you listed in my southern genealogy. I do have ADAIR, MARTIN AND LITTLE but they came from County Down in 1856 and settled in western MD. I suppose they might be connected back across the pond generations ago ... Interesting about a Cherokee connection with early New England settlers. Guess they migrated south? Such fun piecing it all together, isn't it? I don't know much about the ancestry of Mary Adair, my 5th great grandmother. What I know so far follows my sign-off. Wishing you all the best, Beth Descendants of Mary Adair Generation 1 MARY ADAIR was born in 1735 in South Carolina, USA. She died in 1804 in South Carolina, USA. Beth, did any of your SC folks pop over the state line in Franklin County, GA? I've been working on a project with a shirt-tail cousin who actually connects with several lines of both my maternal and paternal lines as well as my husband's people in Franklin County, Spartanburg County and Old 96. There are several Martins on the tax rolls in Franklin in the early 1800s associated with the Bryan Ward most people cite as Nancy Ward's husband, although I haven't proved that for myself. Other names associated with this group are my husband's Dosses out of Pittsylvania County, VA to SC along with associated Webb, Nix, and Gibson families. Across the line in on the 1790 census in Spartanburg County SC are trader Alexander Dromgoole, Ellis Harlin, Ezekiel Buffington, a number of Lowreys, some Vanns, Vann Walker, Thorntons, Fields, my mother-in-law's several 3rd great grandfather and great uncles Christopher Vandergrift and his sons and brothers plus more Dosses. Other names connected to the Cherokee appear such as Jolly, Whitmire, Mayfiled, Gunter, Ellege, Rider, Shelton, Blithe, Thompson (close to Rider which would make sense since David Thompson married Austin Rider's daughter), and Guest/Guess. A number of names connected to the Choctaw and Chickasaw also appear - Logan, Bohannon, Gentry (adopted Chickasaws who also married into the Cherokee), Little. It was an absolute unexpected bonus to find my more direct lines - Webb, Doss, Nix, especially Austin Webb, my 6th great grandfather who should not have been in Franklin County, but owned land there - and Christopher Vandergrift and co. Those are lines I've been working on to prove out to begin with (Vandergrifts go back to New Amsterdam in the mid-1600s and Cynthia Vandergrift, my mother-in-law's great grandmother married Samuel Houston Byram, who was a Mayflower descendant through John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, two very old colonial lineages!) and the stories of Cherokee blood in those lines are common. This places them in the midst of names who associated intimately with the Cherokee, so there may be a small grain of truth for at least friendship or business associations and possibly marriage connections. Somewhere in there I seem to remember some Bourlands who are also associated with the Chickasaws. But my tired brain just won't pull that info up! Happy time travels, Susan

I have 2 sets of ADAIRs: one from County Down, NI who settled in Oakland, Garrett, MD and married into the MARTIN family (Mary Adair m. Joseph Martin (my 3ggf) in 1836 and Ellen Adair Graham m. Thomas Martin (son of Joseph and Joseph's first wife) in 1870. the other group is in SC, living in Old 96th District in 1779. Mary Adair m. William Bourland 1750 (my 5th ggparents) thought I'd toss this into the conversation to possibly connect with cousins. Thanks! Beth
Ok....why would anyone give themselves a name? The name I'm searching for is Abraham/Abrams/Abram....they can't make up their minds, but supposedly they were in from PA I've seen one Abram that an NA lady's last name, but don't know anything else past that. -----Original Message----- From: cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of R BULLER via Sent: Tuesday, January 20, 2015 8:57 PM To: cherokeegene@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] CHEROKEEGENE Digest, Vol 10, Issue 4 To answer your question, Some of the Adairs that immigrated to the USA and married into the Cherokee, May have been the ones who were previously named Fitzgerald. Thanks Kathie.....it appears to have stayed the same. Now I need to find Nantmeal village, Chester Co., PA (1700's) Turkey Foot, apparently either Chester Co is now Somerset or Nantmeal is now in that county. -----Original Message----- From: cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cherokeegene-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Forbes@lists9.rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, January 20, 2015 12:33 PM To: cherokeegene@rootsweb.com Subject: [CherokeeGene] Pennsylvania counties Not sure what happened in Tennessee, but as in many states there were only a few counties to begin with and then as the areas became settled they broke them up into smaller units. Georges Township is in Fayette County currently; I don't know if it was originally in a different county. Kathie
Its not Cherokee, but its genealogy :o) Does anyone know if counties in PA changed like they did in Tn & NC? I need to find George Twp in Fayette County. And anyone have experience with name changes of those who came to the US?
There is a link on Ancestry when lots of people are talking about upsetting things. One is, they are refusing any OS under Win 7 to work this year. If you don't have win7, your about to have problems. When I started researching, I had to have my mom drive me to the LDS FHC (I was 13) then shortly after I got a computer & Dan found me, I lived on a few blocks away from the FHC....now I live 45 min's away...I'm still inquisitive, just lack desire to drive so far LOL Ancestry use to be great......not suppose much now :o( -----Original Message----- From: Edith Humble [mailto:eadiene7374@gmail.com] Sent: Monday, January 12, 2015 5:47 PM To: Alli :); cherokeegene@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] ancestry I'm glad to know I'm not the only one upset with ancestry. I had someone that posted that mom's grandmother had remarried in OK and she lived with her daughter right here at home. In fact, she never remarried at all Plus I think that ancestry has some sort of bug because I've entered my info and then the next time I go in it's different. I'm a member and even went World wide but not using it much. They make it very difficult in many ways, not listing it alphabetically which means you have to hunt thru all those names to find your info. However, since they've bought out all the other informative sites what other resources do you have? The answer is the library. Our library has great resources but I'm too laid back to go and research. My age, I think, but when I started I was only a block away from the library and they stayed open on Thursday until nine. Plus I was younger then and more inquisitive. Adiene =====*NOTICE THIS*===== Cherokee genealogy; certain conversation is allowed to do genealogy; and sort fact from (fiction).
