This is a name given to Old Man Matoy in a deposition given by Arch McDaniels concerning Ruth Ellidge. Ruth Ellidge’s parents were Ruth Helton and James Matoy. Arch states that this is the name of Old Man Matoy. He also calls him Ooku le eu hu Now we know that Okuh Ulah in various spellings is the ‘title’ for leader or chief. Bearing this in mind.... Old Man Matoy was a resident of Tellico/Telliquah village the first principal village in the Overhills...before Chota or Tomotley. Chiefs of this village were Old Hop and Oconostota. We know Old Hops name was Kanagatoga [sic] so was Ooku le eu hu also Oconostota???? Or does it leave too many stones unturned? Joyce Gaston Reece

It has been successfully documented that Nancy Bolin was the mother of Alexander McDaniel who most 'assume' is a son of Wm David....but it is not proven....therefore a brother to John. Your John McDaniel was born about 1763, Granny Hopper around 1740. You can find a John and Mary McDaniel in the Georgia land records; he participated in the land lotteries in 1803 and 1807. If this is the same John who was son of William/David McDaniel and Granny Hopper it looks like he did not consider himself a Cherokee and he died before the first census roll was created in 1817, so he wouldn't have been on any lists. Joyce, I have not had any test done but may i suggest for those of us who do believe the accounts of the bible a good book? I enjoy reading and refering to: Missing Links Discovered in the Assyrian Tablets by E Raymong Capt. I purchase mine through Artisan Publishers in Muskogee Oklahoma. It is a lot of reading But divulges a lot of research on migrations and names. Another one I like to go with it is The Post Captivity Names Of Israel by Rev. Wm. Pescoe Gourd.I would possibly get and read it after the first. It goes a long way in telling us about migration routes and sailing back then. I hope this helps everyone to dig even Farther...:) ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 12, 2012 2:00 AM Subject: CHEROKEEGENE Digest, Vol 7, Issue 212 > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. Hello Everyone I hoped it would be the right Information on my parents, it is not but it is not a waste, because the RIDGEWAY/RIDGWAY Information I am sure I can use somewhere in my Delaware background but as of yet I do not know just where it fits. That side of the family has a world of people and is a nightmare because they used the same names over and over also each generation had BIG Families and again the names used over and over. I do thank you for your effort in this and everyone else, I have still not found their marriage and maybe never will but I will keep trying. I had some other sites I had hits on but like this one, I do not know if they will bare fruit or not, everything helps even if it is wrong because it lets one know that it is not the way one needs to go.
