But this is what man has determined.... so while my way of thinking agrees with what your saying (Sun for day, Moon for night. Light is Day, dark is Night).......doesn't mean our original interpretation is correct...... especially since His minute is a 1,000 yrs to us :0) But yep............ A day is a day :) Alli ----- Original Message ----- From: "Spiritwalker" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, December 28, 2012 4:20 PM Subject: Re: [CherokeeGene] different topic--OT > Well Alli, it also says he made the sun and the moon, one to rule the day, > and the other to rule the night, which they still do today. Well Alli, it also says he made the sun and the moon, one to rule the day, and the other to rule the night, which they still do today. There is no reason to believe, nor any science to prove, that the length of a solar day (aproximately 24 hours) or the length of a year (approx. 365 days & 6 hours) has changed nor ever will change since he created them. So personally, I take it to mean exactly what it says. BIG HUGE roadblock, Susan I have a great grandmother named Lillie Love Woods m John H. Shelton, 1896. She is earliest found on the 1880 Charleston, Swain Co., NC Census. Lillie is 4. Her mother is Hazletine Woods who is listed as 'wife' to 'M. Woods'. Not sure that 'wife' part is correct. Mother in law is Sarah Woods age 54, widowed. The only possible census listing prior to that is William G and Sarah Woods in Polk , TN and not sure if I should even be talking about them....it's that wide open. Others in the household in 1880 are Marion, John, David, Martha. We know little to nothing more. Except to say that 'grandma said her grandma was Indian.........................' Don't laugh. Love you Joyce, but I'm afraid I must disagree with your statement that "nowhere in this Bible are we given what a day consists of." I've always wondered Kathie if her 'name' really was Nanyi-hi. Nanyi is often translated as 'Mother or Beloved mother". Sometimes spelled as Nani Joyce Gaston Reece -----Original Message----- From: Forbes, Kathie Sent: Friday, December 28, 2012 3:53 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [CherokeeGene] English vs. native names Many full-blood Cherokee were given English names. For example, Nancy Ward was Cherokee, married to a white man named Ward. We believe that Nancy was an Anglicization of her Cherokee name (usually written as Nan ye hi). I don't think having an English name has anything to do with being a full-blood or not. Cherokee who interacted with whites found their names translated or transliterated into something that white men could pronounce and write down. In many cases the 'white' names have nothing at all to do with their Cherokee names. Are there any "Perkins" people or anyone with knowledge of this line being Cherokee? My Grandmother and her Mother both spoke of our being Cherokee, but being small a small child, I didn't think to inquire. It was just something we knew. We were Indian. That was good enough. Therefore, another of my lines (maternal) is Perkins. Perkins connections: PERKINS - Estes - McKinney - Wainscott/Winscot - Gossage/Gossett If anyone has any info on this surname, I will add given names. I want to avoid all the names unless it is beneficial. Many thanks.
Susan, Jane Young was born circa 1802 in Eastern TN, or Western NC. She married Everitt Ritter and they moved to Eastern MS, where she died. She had a sister Mary Young, who also married a Ritter (not sure sitting here which one). Charlotte Caroline Ritter (born 1843) was one of Jane Young's daughters, who married George Washington Bayless(b:1844), and my grandmother was a daughter of this union, born in Harford, AR in 1880. My grandmother was Iris Estella Bayless, married Martin Houston Wagnon and lived in Cinton, Texas where my mother was born in 1910, and then moved back to Oklahoma, where she died in 1960. Charlotte Caroline Ritter died in 1930 in Ashland, Oklahoma. Any more details, I would be happy to provide.
