    2. It is difficult to say that any surname is an American Indian name. Most American Indians were given or took Euroamerican surnames when forced to assimilate. So, you just have to follow names back until the match with someone's history. Such as: My Cherokee family has the surname Riddle but they took it from a farming family that was nice to them in Tennessee when they were forced to assimilate. Gloria
