Dear Brenda, My Watkins (Wadkins) family is said to have come from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia. They were supposedly mixed blood Cherokees but I only have oral support for that claim right now. One of my gggrandmothers, who married into the Watkins family, was named POTTS and it is said that she came from Pott's Mountain, Georgia. In the 1860s they lived near Nashville, TN and then moved to Northwestern AL/Northeastern MS where they ran a sawmill on the Tennessee River near present day Iuka, MS/Cherokee, AL. Some of the names I remember off the top of my head are George Henry WAD(T)KINS, Lena POTTS WAD(T)KINS, Henry Putnam WAD(T)KINS, Dock WAD(T)KINS, William WAD(T)KINS, Ella ADKINSON WAD(T)KINS. If any of this sounds familiar to you or anyone. Please email me. I have been diligently searching for my ancestors for some years now and would love some more info on them.
