    3. I grew up in Maryland, on the border of Washington, D.C. - I am Cherokee and Northern Cheyenne. One of my best friends as in elementary school...her mother was a Barnes. Her mother's name was Virginia (Virgie). My friend's name was Jessie (Jessie was born in 1946). Her siblings were Raymond, Goldie and Dawn. I can't think of the names of the grandparents but they lived in a village called 'Shoemaker Hill'. Hope this helps. 3. There are quite a lot of Barnes in the Pittsburg County area of Oklahoma, you can check usgenweb or other sites for this area and see what you can find. My g aunt was married to a Barnes, but I don't know much about them and they never had any kids, but I do know there's quite a lot of his family in that area. They are supposed to be of Cherokee descent as I recall. Pittsburg County was previously Tobucksy County and Choctaw Nation. There is a society, Pittsburg County Genealogical & Historical Society in McAlester, OK that might be of help, they also have a website (check the name of the society at www.google.com) and do look-ups by email if you have specific names and such. I hope this helps some!
