    1. Can someone assist me in linking my great grandfather to one of the rolls?
    2. Janet Plato
    3. Hello, I am interested in tracing my Cherokee heritage. I am close, but I am not sure how to complete the last step. I have my grandfather's name and birthplace, and his father's name but only general information on his birth. My mother said my grandfather was 100% cherokee and my grandmother had a small amount, but I never verified it, and most of my family died in the last few years so almost all links have been lost. This is what I know: 1 - E. Janet Plato (that's me) born 7/3/1966 Houston, TX 2 - Lawrence Allen Plato (this is my dad) 3 - Patricia Jean Collins (this is my mom's maiden name) born Harris County, TX 12/12/1941 I gleaned the birth information from an online source, so I do not have a birth certificate. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/harris/harristoc.htm Collins, Patrica Jean 12-12-1941 F Alberta Mae Lewellyn Eugene Collins So according to rootsweb, and my mother, my maternal grandfather was Eugene Byron Collins. My father thought he was born around 1912, possibly in Dec. Which agrees with his age and address in the 1930 census. My father traced him down in the 1930 census. I am pretty sure the child listed in the 1930 census is my maternal grandfather. The name and address agree with where he grew up, the age is about right and the father's name agrees with what my father thought it should be. 4 - Eugene Byron Collins born ~1912 (Possibly Dec per dad) as of 1930 living in Waco, TX (McLennan County) http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/mclennan/mclenntoc.htm This is my grandfather, I do not have his actual birth certificate, but I have located him and his parents via the 1930 census records. This makes his father Thomas Collins. Given his age in the census, he was like born in 1869, which means he might be on the Dawson Rolls. 5 - Thomas Collins (born in Texas), He was 61 in 1930 on the census, and was listed as head of household (So he was likely born ~1869). The 1930 census give him the following family: Kate ?? (wife), 42 Eugene 17 <--- my grandfather Naoma, 12 Hazel 12 Thomas 10 Lucille 9 Lois 6 Flora 2 Address: 1326 Dutton St, Waco, TX Thomas Collins born in TX and parents both born in Alabama (again, per 1930 census). So this puts Thomas, my great frandfather, as being born around 1869 and having parents from Alabama. Alabama was not Indian territory, so I doubt he's on the dawson rolls, but you never know. The Dawson Rolls are a list of those living in Oklahoma between 1898 and 1914. This is about the right time period for my great grandfather since he was likely born in 1869. He would be between 29 and 47 depending on if and when he was indexed. There are several T Collins on Census cards 10803, 10804, D1064 and D1065 but I cannot find the raw data, just a comment that the search application spits out to try and convince me to join. The other big list is the Guion-Miller Roll for Eastern Cherokee living in any state in 1909. Page 61 of the GM lists Thomas Collins #33412 from Indian Territory and #33189 from Oklahoma. These are the right places, but I cannot link the person they list with grandfather... and that's my real question, how do I make the connection? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, E.
