Hello, I know there is Cherokee in my ancestry, and I'd love to know where in my line it came from, or at least get some confirmation of it for myself. I do know that my line goes up to Archibald Redmond McMahan, who came from Ireland and settled in Sevier County, Tennessee. A few generations below, there are several wives of his son and grandson who I'm trying to find out about. For example, one of his sons married Elizabeth Byrd, who I've researched and can only find out that she was from either North Carolina or Virginia and was born in 1777. Does anyone know about the Byrds in that area around the late 1700s? Was this a Cherokee name? Thanks! Laura
