    1. [CHEROKEE-SURNAMES] ASHERBRAUNER - HUDSON - WOOD - GULLICK - KESTLER - WHISENHUNT
    2. Judy and list, To start with I apologize for having made some of these names out of order with the list assignment of letter designations. However, because of the intricately woven aspects to certain names, I felt that it was better to post a single email with a lot of information, over a few emails that might not have made any correlations to the other lines. Please do forgive the breech in honoring your request to the list. Further more, I have just recently started this, since I am the next generation to be in charge of the genealogy I'm having to go back and verify everything that was given to me in these extensive lines and trees. This is no small task and tracking down birth/death certs and other relevant information has become a task in patience with time willing being at a premium because I myself am going to school full time along with life. So please bear with me on this...for I am new at it. I was asked by family members on both lines to attempt to confirm the validity of any Native American stories floating in the oral history. This is exactly what I'm doing. I think more than anything else, the family members that have expressed an interest merely wish to know if the stories are true. I'm of the same opinion, in that knowing where a family came from is a source of pride and respect for one's past, which can be given to the future generations. At this point in time, I've been unable to find any of the names on any of the rolls, so I'm looking more for information about possible connections to current or post recognized families to just verity the stories. WIth that having been said...Here we go with the information. :} ASHERBRAUNER, Katie (sp?) (sisters - Tina and Polly - no information other than they lived with Katie and John, oral family history) Birth Unknown - circa 1700 (approximated Guess based on child's birth date) Death Unknown - circa 1860's (approximated guess based on child's birth date) Unknown Date of marriage, married to John Franklin Hudson (Dates also unknown - courthouse fire in Lincoln County, North Carolina) There has been a reoccurring story in the family history that was suppressed by the majority of the elder family members that Katie ASHERBRAUNER HUDSON was reported to be Cherokee. Because of the fires in the Lincoln County Courthouse supporting documentation is sketchy at best as to dates, and where from. They had two children one named Fannie that we have no other information on. The other, my direct line, is Emma Elizabeth HUDSON born August 02, 1854 somewhere in North Carolina and died Dec. 14, 1928, in Lincolnton, North Carolina who married Burton Craig WOOD in June 03, 1885 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. Burton Craig WOOD was born June 25, 1853 and died on May 17, 1929, all in Lincoln County, North Carolina. It is reported that after Burton's first wife died, he went to Cherokee to meet and marry. Currently looking for ONLY Katie ASHERBRAUNER(sp?) (and/or her sisters) and Emma Elizabeth HUDSON ***SEPERATE FAMILY LINE*** Miriam Eliza GULLICK Born Feb. 26, 1848 - Henderson county, North Carolina Died: Dec. 11, 1911 - Catawba County, North Carolina Married: circa 1869 to: George Washington KESTLER(may also be KESSLER, but all accounts point to KESTLER) Born: May 05, 1849 - Greenville, South Carolina Died: July 09, 1913 - Hendersonville, North Carolina Parents of both are unknown. Only known Child is Emma Gullick KESTLER, Born July 09, 1875 - Hendersonville, North Carolina and died 1933 - Catawba County, North Carolina. Emma Gullick KESTLER married Amidas A. Whitener, Born 1874 - Catawba County, North Carolina, Died 1958 - same. It is reported through family history, that the KESTLER and GULLICK families may have come from the Mississippi areas and were thought to have been either in part or in full living near or on native lands in that area. As of yet, I have been unable to confirm this for lack of parents names, and continue to search diligently as time allows for these names. ***This line is connected to Amidas A. Whitener*** ***Sarah WHISENHUNT and Eli WHITENER are his Grandparents through his father's side *** Sarah WHISENHUNT Married Eli Whitener on Feb. 18 1834 in Catawba County. Her origins are unknown. And the family files do not list anything for her family other than names. Based on Eli's Birth was March 05, 1810 and his death was January 11, 1894. It is possible that Sarah's dates are somewhere around those of Eli's but unknown at this time. Sarah WHISENHUNT's parents are John WHISENHUNT and Eve WHISENHUNT. No further information. Thank you for your time and patience in this very long Email. Craig
