My grandmother always told me that she was one quarter American Indian, which meant that one of her grandparents had to be a full-blood. My g-g-grandfather was Gaines Chism Smith. My g-g-grandmother was Matilda Jane Davis.I have found Gaines Chism Smith on the Dawes list as Intermarried White age 56. The card # is IW274. Here is my problem. Matilda Jane Davis Smith died before the lists were made. She died around 1867 and I cannot find her on any list. I do not know where she is buried. If anyone has any more information on this, please let me know. I am a descendant of her first child, Mary Ann Smith. I was named Mary Ann after her. Thanks, Mary Ann
