Dear fellow listers, I am just beginning my search for my grandmother whom I have been told was of Cherokee descent. Her name was Emma Arthur, according to the information on my father's (William A. Malloy b. June 1892) baptismal record. Her husband was William E. Malloy/Maloy They lived in Desdemona, Tx when my father was born. Whether they stayed there? I don't know. My father was gone by the time I was old enough to ask questions. My mother, would only tell me that I was Irish and Cherokee. Any suggestions or help is deeply appreciated. Regards, Anne Marie

Anne Marie, I hope this helps. I am not sure about the 1880 census. Be sure to check all this out. The first record was on FamilySearch.org. I do believe this is your ggrandparents with your grandmother Emma. But as always, take care to document as much as possible with paper records. Marriage licenses/birth certs/ and death certs. Also check newspaper archives for the same. Obits are very helpful as they list the next of kin as long as you remember the state of mind of the person providing the information. In other words, research,research,research. Note the spelling on surnames.
