http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gaston/ETNIndex.htm At this link you will find a list of Cherokee traders. www.rootsweb.com/~tnmcmin2 YOu will find a Native American links behind the LINKS that will take you to many sites. The very early Cherokee are among the most difficult to research. The best aids can be found among the early State Papers for Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The Cherokee related American State Papers have been extracted and placed at www.rootsweb.com/~tnpolk2 and the mcmin2 link above. Another place is the Journal of Cherokee Studies available thru the Cherokee Museum in Cherokee NC Link and index on the Mcmin2 site behind RECORDS I'd also advise looking into the Watauga Settlement documents and the History of the State of Franklin. Hello, I have a GGgrandfather who was born in the area that would be considered Davidson co., in mid Tn. in the year 1771. His name was John Hardin. I know the area was Cherokee lands until statehood which occurred abt 1783. I have seen an early map of mid Tn. with Davidson co. surrounded by Cherokee territory on three sides. The other side being the southern Ky. border. I imagine my ancestor was at least part white. Is there any way to tell if John Hardin may have been an Indian agent or trader of furs and goods and be allowed to live among the Cherokee's?? I don't know who his parents were? He may have had brothers named William G.or William Henry. Can anyone assist me??? I really would appreciate the help. Dianne Hardin in Ca. . Joyce Gaston Reece
