Hello, I have a GGgrandfather who was born in the area that would be considered Davidson co., in mid Tn. in the year 1771. His name was John Hardin. I know the area was Cherokee lands until statehood which occurred abt 1783. I have seen an early map of mid Tn. with Davidson co. surrounded by Cherokee territory on three sides. The other side being the southern Ky. border. I imagine my ancestor was at least part white. Is there any way to tell if John Hardin may have been an Indian agent or trader of furs and goods and be allowed to live among the Cherokee's?? I don't know who his parents were? He may have had brothers named William G.or William Henry. Can anyone assist me??? I really would appreciate the help. Dianne Hardin in Ca. .
