Researching Harriet J Walker (born 1831 in Tn) married 1849 in Calloway Co MO to Nelson B. Freeman (born TN) . Daughter Mary Louisa Freeman Shumate born 1851 Calloway Co MO applied for land due to her Cherokee heritage when Indian Territory was settled. Her claim was rejected because she lacked one name needed for proof. Is there anywhere on file or in any archieves information on rejected claims and where does one search for such information. If such a file exists, it would contain valuable genealogy for me. Any help or suggestions appreciated.
I noticed today the reply sent to Ann Marie regarding Arthur ancestors. The census info had CAN as place of birth for parents. What do those initials mean? I am a newbie at reading census info regarding American Indians. Dianne Hardin in Ca.
Dianne, CAN means Canada. Don't know whether they were Native or not. Anne Marie, I hope this helps. I am not sure about the 1880 census. Be sure to check all this out. The first record was on FamilySearch.org. I do believe this is your ggrandparents with your grandmother Emma. But as always, take care to document as much as possible with paper records. Marriage licenses/birth certs/ and death certs. Also check newspaper archives for the same. Obits are very helpful as they list the next of kin as long as you remember the state of mind of the person providing the information. In other words, research, research, research. Note the spelling on surnames. Hi All, I am in South Florida. We did not get hardly any of the storm here. (Fort Lauderdale) We were very lucky. However, it was a very slow storm so we have been inside and waiting since Thursday night/Friday Morning. We were finally given the all clear today. We were very fortunate because we did not even get that much rain and no flooding. Conniesue --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Still looking for any info on the Watkins name. This person that is my great great grandmother was named Annie or Anna Watkins (sometimes spelled Wadkins) and one of her close female relatives married a Cherokee fellow. This couple had children. Anna herself was born in North Carolina moved to South Carolina and then ended up in Blue Ridge Georgia area. Her first husbands last name was Sisson...but her second husband (my great great grandfather) was a Bradford and he was 15 years or so her junior. They had children and then Annie died in Oklahoma as the family were moving westward. The story of the Cherokee person marrying into the family held to this day. Anyone know of any woman who was a Watkins...who married a Cherokee gentleman and then had children and were living near Georgia? I know this is quite the long shot...but I wish to know my Cherokee side. thanks Brenda Kent (great great granddaughter of Annie Watkins Bradford). --

Her birth name was Bertha Florence Toms (legally changed @1850 to Thomas by her father). Her parents are Perlina Fanny Bragg and Andrew Jackson Thomas. She died in 1927 in Bauxite Arkansas. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You! Sherry L Davis Lubbock, TX --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - 50x more storage than other providers!
