Thank you. I am not sure how I connect to the Brock surname. I had a mtdna test as well as did a Brock male. We showed a genetic match on our mothers side. Now my direct maternal line has no Brocks with the exception of a John Bennett Williams (gg Grandfather) who married a Mary Polly Brock. However, none of my ancestors were the product of this marriage. So you got me. Thank you for your input. I really appreciate it. Donna, I purchased a DNA test from DNAPrint genomics for my wife to determine content of Native Americn blood line. This test will only give a percentage breakdown of Native American blood line and other blood lines but will not identify which tribe. The cost was $219.00 and their web site is http://www.dnaprint.com/ Leo Mills X-Message: #2 Date: Sat, 04 Jun 2005 13:51:03 +0000 From: "Donna Sue" <shelties70@centralpets.com> To: CHEROKEE-SURNAMES-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <W92989143820971117893063@bark.centralpets.com> Subject: dna question Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit how does one get a dna test done to check for their native american heritage? how much does this cost? does it show if it is male or female that it came from? thanks for any input on this Donna

Hello, my name is Ann. I hope that this works for me. I have been trying to search my family history, but to no avail. If anyone can help me, it would be much appriciated. Here is all the information I have: My great-grandfather's name is: John Minus Henson DOB: 3-30-1869 Died: 1-19-1957 Wife: Elnora (DOB: 9-22-1882, died 4-10-1940) I do know that John Henswon was a Native American, but what tribe is a conflicting story. But the majority say that he was Cherokee. I also know that his wife was a white woman. I believe she was Irish, but not sure. Some say that John Henson was born in GA, and others say in OK. I do know that by 1920 he was living in Craighead County, AK (I have a census). There is also a story that John Henson was adopted when he was a baby by a white family, but only one person in the family tells that story. My great-grandparents had several children, here are the names that I know: Rosey Henson: DOB: @1-06-1902, Died 4-29-1996 (my grandmother) John Elmer: DOB: 6-6-1908, Died 4-6-1943 Bessie: DOB: ?, Died: 1-19-1993 These I only have names: Anderson Ruth L. Wanda May The 1920 census lists a nephew, William Mathews, he was 11 at the time of the census. I do know that there were over 10 children born to John and Elnora Henson, I just can't find all the infor. If anyone could please help, that would be wonderful. I really don't know where else to turn. The rolls are very scary, and I really can't understand them. Sincerely, Ann Kane Sportsmomof4@sbcglobal.net
Looking for a needle in a haystack here. My g-grandfather Rufus Burton Smith was born in Lincoln County Tennessee in 1864, in 1889 he married Lizzie Whorley/Worley in Lincoln County, Tennessee. Apparently he had a child during this time by a cherokee woman also named Lizzie, from PaintRock Alabama, (she was the daughter of a cherokee chief), August 1894, named Charles Henry Hammond Garland Smith, in Blanche Tennessee. Apparently this Lizzie, his biological mother, died either two or three years after he was born and he was raised by Lizzie Whorley/Worley, Rufus's wife. I am trying to find family or any information on this Lizzie who would be my g-grandmother. Thanks, Holly --------------------------------- Discover Yahoo! Does anyone have any connections to a Obed Carter born around 1826 to 1832 or his son Henry Carter born in duplin county NC in 1859? Henry Carter is age 11 on the 1870 duplin county census but is not on the 1900 duplin county census. however there is a George Carter on the 1900 Rockingham county NC census age 41. I'm thinking this could be Obed's son. a family tree has George Carter as George W Carter which is also how the George in Rockingham is listed. I'm trying to find out who Obed Carters parents are and where they came from. He married a lady named either Sarah or Sallie Carter. They both were carters. Thanks in advance for any help. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gaston/ETNIndex.htm At this link you will find a list of Cherokee traders. www.rootsweb.com/~tnmcmin2 YOu will find a Native American links behind the LINKS that will take you to many sites. The very early Cherokee are among the most difficult to research. The best aids can be found among the early State Papers for Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The Cherokee related American State Papers have been extracted and placed at www.rootsweb.com/~tnpolk2 and the mcmin2 link above. Another place is the Journal of Cherokee Studies available thru the Cherokee Museum in Cherokee NC Link and index on the Mcmin2 site behind RECORDS I'd also advise looking into the Watauga Settlement documents and the History of the State of Franklin. I'd sent a reply to your Tennessee Cherokee email earlier and it bounced. It did not come back to the list either. Did you happen to get it? Joyce Gaston Reece

Does anyone know whether or not the surname "Throckmorton" (in the Tennessee area ) is Cherokee?
I am trying to obtain information on the surname "Throckmorton" in the Tennessee area.I was adopted there, and am trying to find out if that surname is Cherokee.
My Cherokee Ancestor was born 1760 in Ootelwah,Tenn. In 1782 she married John Sutton, a Trader, born 1755 in Bath Co. Va. I know her name as Betsey Sutton but not her family name and where she lived before marriage. John and Betsey had four sons, John, Elijah, Henry and Robert. After her husband died about 1800, Betsey returned to her home. I found her on the Henderson Roles in 1835 .. That is the last information I have concerning Betsey. I am a descendent of her son John and know of his life. What I'd think about is where Betsey lived and of her family before her marriage, if anyone has advice or information I would deeply appreciate any help.Vivian from Indiana.
For years I've been trying to find my Phillips and Cisco ancestors with no luck. Finally a single piece of paper from the Gov. may be a clue to help. My ancestor Albert Phillips was born 29 Mar 1879 in Iowa His father Charles Phillips born 1859 also in Iowa >>>Charles' mother Mary Cisco born in 1838 OH may have come from Delaware.(Her husband was David Phillips thought to have been born in Iowa) Now I've received a letter from the Gov saying Albert Phillips was really Albert Greyeagle / Cherokke / BB /census # 30626 / and other number 12345 Is there anyone who can help me to the next step? I'd like to find out about this family and to find Mary Cisco's family as well. All advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much, Sarah
I have recently found my birth family and they have told me that I had a grandma who was part Cherokee and on another side have a great grandma who was also part cherokee. These ladies were from Duplin county NC and Onslow county NC. I have traced down my Shepard family heritae back to 1710 and all these Shepard's stayed in Duplin and Onslow county. I have yet to trace their wife's down. Here is a list of possible surnames I have aquired so far: Scurry, Sholar, Shepard, Ritter, King, Marshburn or possibly Mashburn, Carter, and Highsmith Is it possible someone of Cherokee heritage would have ended up living in the south eastern part of NC. I ws told my gr gr grandpa, my gr grandma and my grandma on one side all were very dark with black hair. I have dark brown hair that is very thick, straight and stubborn and my aunt says I favor my grandmas who had Cherokee in them. I was trying to connect the Shepards for my aunt said that was where the Cherokee was to come from. So far all I've traced back are registered as white and on none of the rolls. I know not everyone listed on the rolls, but I'm wondering does anyone have any Cherokee relatives that live in south eastern part of NC or have any relatives with the above surnames that could be in the south eastern part of NC? thanks for any information you may have Donna --------------------------------------------- This e-mail was sent using a CentralPets.com WebMail account Get yours at: http://mail.centralpets.com
Hello. I have been quiet lately, however, I have a request. I posted a family sheet given to me regarding Andrew Jackson Taylor. It had all of the NA information about his family. I know that I shared it with some of my different Lists and some of the individuals on the Lists privately. I lost it when my computer went down. Would anyone happen to still have it that can send it back to me? I would appreciate it so much. Conniesue
