    1. [CHEROKEE-SURNAMES] "Free Will"
    2. Watts & Williams . " Free Will" said to be a full blood Chrokee , once held as a slave and later released. He was born in Oconee, Co. Sc. One of his 4 children , Eliza or Polly ,was born there about 1810, and may have been known as Polly Long . She married George Williams, born about1805 in Oconee, Co. Sc. . It is believed they moved to Rabun, Co. Ga. before 1841 when their daughter Dicy Caroline was born. She and another daughter , Elizabeth, married into the Watts family of Rabun , Co. Ga. . Some known desendants are from the families of Teems, Ramey, Callenback, Shirley and Tow . In the Miller roll applications from from the Williams & Watts families it says " Free Will" (always written with quotation marks) was a member to the Treaties of 1835, possibly 1846, and was on the roll of 1851 . He may have used an Indian name which is unknown to me. Any help in identifying this elusive anceestor will be gratefully appreciated . Jackie Ray 3-21-03 - Velda Hinton e-mail nitewriterj@aol.com

    3. Hi, all, My name is Betty Lieber and I am researching the subject names for my husband's line. We have determined (although not proven) that the Cherokee connection is through his ggggggrandfather, Benjamin Wofford, who married Elizabeth Martin, who's father was a full-blood Cherokee, James Martin. Ben was b 1754 in SC and Elizabeth was b 1755 (presumably in SC). Their son, James Wofford was married to Abigail Carter (nothing known about her), and their son, Adam J. Wofford was married to Amanda Bowen. Any help would be appreciated. Best to you and God bless you all, Betty --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
