    3. When I was a kid the neighbors had one. $5 per month but you had to buy your own batteries - the more you talked, the more it cost you. Used those big round ones with screw posts on top. Scheneckerville Telephone Co. Part of the Whoop & Holler Network. It was allowed to have one Bell System phone in each town - in PA. That one was also crank and located at the general store. You cranked it and the operator in Elmira, NY - 10 miles away would answer.
