    3. Anna, the fire chief of Benbrook says he has been here for 19 years and he knows it is the worse dry spell he remembers, but the Ft. Worth meteorologists say this is the worse dry season in over 50 years. And we do read about the flooding of Ft. Worth's west side in I believe 1949 when water got deep enough to reach the 4th floor of the old Montgomery Ward store bldg. on West 7th St. This was all before we moved to Texas in 1958. The big fears right now are from tossed cigarettes by careless drivers and the trains heading west from Ft. Worth to the west coast. Firemen are exhausted, but we are sorry that ya'll are having to sell off horses for lack of available feed, and this during the time that the Fort Worth Livestock Show is in full swing and the Houston show follows - sure hope other parts of the country will ship in feed for that show. News reports from out at the Stock Show hasn't mentioned there is a shortage of feed, and if the weather (temperature wise) ! holds on, there will not be the need for huge piles of hay to bed the animals and kids down on; 4-H'ers sleep in the barns with their animals.
