Alli, Maybe you live in a secured place, but there is a drainage ditch running along our property line that use to overflow every we got a hard rain and it backed up through the easement behind our house and onto our back yard and back toward the street between our house and the one next door. 40 years ago there wasn't any flood insurance written, and now it is so costly that most people feel they can't afford it. "Some brain" has determined we live in the 500 year flood plain. How they determined that number for the years between floods is beyond me! Next year if my math and memory holds up, will only be 400 years since this country was settled by the Europeans 1607 - 2007 and no history has been written to cover such weather facts! The thing is you can't bill or sue the city govt. nor the county govt. for such happenings. they might offer to help lay sandbags if there is enough time.
