I didn't see your original message, but I can try & help w/researching if you need it. Its frustrating at times, but still fun. Alli :) Hi Alli, Thanks for your reply. My original post was in search of my Martin family ancestors in Tennessee as so little is known of them. I then got a suggestion that I should investigate the CherokeeGene list and look for someone named Glee. The person who made the suggestion, Joyce, just thought I should investigate Joseph Martin and any Native American linkage. Not sure where to start. She thought Glee might recognize something about my ancestor, Louis Martin. My original post is below. Thanks, Kevin in California Greetings All, I am searching for the following surnames in Tennessee. Sadly, I don't have as much information to provide as I have seen many of the previous posters provide. Green or Clun in Lincoln County, TN ( via Madison Co. Alabama ) Martin County unknown. I seek other Martin family researchers who have a Lewis/Louis Martin in their family line. Born approximately 1877-1878. No parental or sibling information is currently known. What is known: Louis Martin fled Tennessee approximately 1895-1900 with friend, William Nathan Bailey. Both Louis Martin and Nathan Bailey settled in Oklahoma Indian Territory and married sisters by the last name of Green. Family lore indicates that Louis Martin fled Tennessee after being involved in a shooting. It is believed that he was contacted sometime later and told that the man did not die and he could come home. He elected to not leave Oklahoma I.T. as he had already married and started a family. I am in the hopes that some of the descendents this family who contacted him may still be in Tennessee. Louis Martin died of influenza/pneumonia in 1917. At the time of his death no information was provided on Louis Martin's parents as his wife stated she knew of no information. On one census he lists a birth state of Ohio but I suspect that may have been a lie to protect is hiding status...possible? On his death record his wife stated that he was born in Tennessee. I would love to hear from any Martin family researchers who have a Louis/Lewis Martin in their line to see if we can make a connection. Respectfully, Kevin Roberts
