Leonard was a talented organizer of AIM..some traditionals from Pine Ridge ask him to go to Rez and protect some families in 1975.. a trible consul person paid mercenaries to run off the Aimsters these NDN folks called them self GOONS..the Goons had been beating up folks and causin troble all over....the FBI was present and turned a blind eye to the violance....the FBI followed a pick=up onto Rez..the families thought they were comming under attack..some shots were herd...all hell broke loose and 2 FBI guys were dead and 1 AIM guy...The Goons later said the FBI gave then armor pearcing bullets...the FBI terrorized and coerced Myrtle Poor Bear into saying she was Leonard's girlfriend and saw him shoot the 2 men..she in truth never had meet Leonard and later recanted her testamony...Leonard has been in prison for 27 years on trumped up charges.....some say the FBI shot their own men by mistake and wont admit it ----- Original Message ----- From: Alli Sent: Friday, March 10, 2006 5:04 PM To: CHEROKEE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Cherokee Circle] MESSAGE FROM LEONARD PELTIER For some its not a matter of forgetting about Leonard or being too young, its about possibly that they may have never HEARD the news when it happened or something like that. I live in Southern Idaho & we very seldom hear anything about anything Indian related unless its the Government trying to change laws or something to make it harder for a Reservation or something to do something such as establishing a bingo hall or gambling casino. And I doubt seriously Leonard would be hurt or offended that someone was/is unaware of his situation, he'd just say 'hey this is a change to educate another person. I didn't learn about Leonard until I got into genealogy about 7 yrs or so ago. So those who know about Leonard's situation now is your chance to educate.......instead of acting shocked that the whole world isn't already aware of who he is.
