Good Morning One of the first things that I do when I join a hew group, is browse through the archives. Which I did. I already belong to several Cherokee groups. I am one of those whose heritage was hidden. But I felt it. And when my mother died, I went on a hunt. Within two days the doors were open. The first thing I learned was my HOUSE linage goes all the way back to the Delaware Lenni-Lenape, Chief Big Thunder and Bright Lightning.And COLEMAN etc. The second important thing I learned, was my grandfather, ROBERT LEE GORDON, was born at Gordonsville VA , 1887. He states in Documentation," his people are from Virginia" The third thing I learned was my other grandparents' gramdparents Edmonds and Alderman, are found at Shawnee Salt Lick Ohio.adjacent to TECSUMSEH's road. Everyone on the census sheet is from MurderKillHundred, Kent County, Delaware. Since those discoveries, I have become a serious Researcher, Writer and Genealogist. Along the way I have accumulated a Elder/Mentor, who also is Cherokee-Lenni-Lenape, who prefers to remain anonymous to outsiders. Because of my in depth research I am led to believe that my grandfather may be the illegedimate grandson of General Robert E Lee, based on General and Governor of Georgia, John B Gordon's "memoirs" My grandfather was the son of REBECCA BYRD TALBOT AND O B ( BYRD) GORDON. tHE "O" is Odin, a nick name BUT I BELIEVE HE WAS, : JAMES B GORDON of South Dakota. I have researched it all within great depth. I have read many documents and many OLD books. I have learned of the Georgia "Gordons" who were cousins to Robert E Lee. I know that the Great Chickamauga Battle ( 160,000 men) took place on my relative's property, the Lee & Gordon Mills on the ChicKamouga Creek. My House relative, John Tippy HOUSE ( Haus 1660) made it down to North Carolina and married Lydia Ann BENGE. His grandson is JAMES HOUSE who went to Montana. My great grandfather was James A HOUSE of Illinois and Montana, where my father was born. Barbara, I am like you and my heritage was hidden. A few weeks before my mother died, we sent her DNA sample for analysis. Just days before she died, it came back as European and Native American. This motivated me to look harder for the link, and I found it with her 3rd great grandmother being the daughter of a white woman and a Cherokee.
