Fox and the Moon - Snoqualmie The Moon called Snoqualm, had a spider make him a rope of cedar bark that stretched from the sky to the Earth. Fox and Blue Jay discovered the rope one day and climbed up where it was attached to the sky. Blue Jay pecked a hole in the sky and flew into a tree in the sky world. Fox changed himself into Beaver and swam in the lake. Moon had set a trap in the lake for Beaver. Moon skinned him and that night, when Moon was asleep, Beaver got up and put his skin back on. Looking around, Beaver took a few trees and the Moon's daylight making tools, some fire, and the Sun which was hidden in the house. Quickly he changed back to Fox, found the hole that Blue Jay had made and carried the tools to Earth. He planted the trees, made daylight, gave fire to the people and put the sun in it's place. Moon awoke angrily. He followed the tracks that led to the hole and attempted to climb the down rope, but it broke and he fell to Earth where he became a mountain. One can see the face of Snoqualm on one of the rocky cliffs, today called Mount Si and it is near Northbend, Washington. I was always taught not to let anyone touch or see what is in my medicine bag but I guess it is o.k. to tell here what is in it. It stays on me at all times except when I take a shower. I am never without it. I wear it on a thin leather thong around my neck under my clothes and sometimes on the outside. Mine has a special stone, wolf fur, white sage, sweetgrass and an herb. I have more than one medicine bag but this one stays with me all the time.
