    3. Shadowbear, I also had a friend that was held up because his (fairly common) Irish name appeared on a 'no fly list'. Sometimes, today, they have to more careful than they used to be. I would rather, in this time of war, be safe, rather than appear as a future newspaper headline like the 4 planes on 9/11. Not everyone has those experiences though, thank God. Most of us just walk through the security lines and safely board our planes (after wandering around the airport for the additional almost 2 hours with nothing to do but spend money, read or eat). God only knows, you don't make jokes about security. Definitely there were similarities amongst the terrorists that flew those fateful planes, they were not white Anglo type people. The choices now are not to go, submit to search and/or screening (like everyone else) or have everyone face the possibility of threats such as the 'shoe' bomber, the guy that was crossing the Canadian-Washington border in 1999, or even the ultimate pilots of 9/11. I guess, I would choose screening. It too bad that things have reached this point. To me it means that the terrorists have already won one part of the war. Our lives in this country have been altered, possibly forever. We are no longer as free 'to move about the country as we were 20 years ago, and may never be again. This affects all of no matter what our background is. 3. Hi Shadowbear, I don't know where your information came from, but it really isn't quite that bad! I flew to LA last summer (although that wasn't my destination, I just 'got' there). I had to be at the airport 2 hours a head of time here in the Seattle area, and although I had to go through security, the worse part was taking my shoes off and having to put them back on. (they tie). Did need to show my driver's license. No big deal. In Fresno, which was my destination airport, to return home, I had to consolidate my purse into my camera bag and carry on luggage, because they limited me to two bags. Again, my DL was sufficient ID. (that's where I ended up on the plane going to LA for whatever senseless reason they sent me to San Francisco and then back to LA, so I could then fly 'non stop' to Seattle. Turned my 2 hour flight going into a 9 hour flight returning. Go figure. Years ago, I took a train from Trenton, NJ to Essex Junction, Vermont. It was an all day ordeal and it was much like taking a cruise. I was still 'riding' that train 8 hours after I got to my destination! The bus is fun for a short 'tour trip, but I sure don't want to do a long distance thing on it. Frankly all in all, I prefer to drive myself unless I am in a real hurry and headed way out of the area. However, I can drive to Spokane from here just as fast as I can fly now. 2 hours at the airport on either end, finding a car there, it only takes me 5 hours to drive and I can stop when I want to and take the scenic route (which is most of the way anyway). Looking forward to spring thaw so I can go over again! 3. Not sure what flying your talking about or what airlines that your talking about, but we just put my stepdaughter on a plane this past Oct. and they didn't want that much info. first/last name, age, destination, since she was a minor & we wanted an escort for her they wanted to know who would be meeting her on the final stop & they needed an id. Would not take another bus for no reason. It took 2 days to get from Portland, Ore. to Twin Falls, Idaho. Never been on a train, but w/all of the derailing that occurs........I'll just drive :) Alli :) >I think if I had to fly on one of those airplanes whoud be it the > newspapers every where==All they want is now is knowing every thing > about you ==even down to your blood type==to get a ticket you will spend > most of the day trying==I guess I would go by bus not the train because > it go's nowhere== > > SHADOW BEAR > > > ==== CHEROKEE Mailing List ==== > <<>OPEN forum to all Cherokee topics - except Genealogy<>> > <>Culture-History-Language-Folk lore and Truths<> > Good Manners & Language is required to be on the list > ALL the links you will need to sub and unsub or contact listowner below > http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Ethnic-Native/CHEROKEE.html > > ============================== > Search the US Census Collection.
