I have in my possession a document dated June 23, 1834 which includes a handwritten receipt for the English Bend tanning process recipe. The purchaser of this recipe was James Chaudoin, the seller was John G. Jones. I descend directly from John Dame, Sr. of Jasper, Marion County TN through his son, Valentine Dame. This document was in an old trunk which has only recently come into my possession. The trunk had belonged to John Dame's grandson, Pleasant C. Dame, who was born circa 1830 in Marion Co TN and died 1901 Laclede Co MO. The document must have been at one time in the possession of either my grx4 grandfather, John Dame, or his son, Valentine Dame, who would have brought it with him to the state of Missouri around 1841. I am not aware of any connection between the Chaudoin and Dame families, other than these families lived fairly close to each other in Marion Co TN in 1830 and the men were apparently tanners by trade. Can someone please give me a connection between the Dame and Chaudoin families that might explain why this document would have spent the last 174 years in an old trunk belonging to my Dame family? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
