It has been several years since I got this document & don't remember if it came from the KY State Archives Frankfort, KY)or the KY Genealogical Society (P.O. Box 153, Franklin, KY 40601). You might also contact the Pulaski Co. Historical Society, (Public Library Bldg., 107 N. Main St., P.O. Box 36, Somerset, KY 42502)to see if they have a Will Book now. I have "organized" all the appx 525 Shadoan (and about 20 variations) of people / families in Pulaski CO, KY via Census 1830 to 1930. I have found Reuben, William in 1830 and Saml, Lucy in 1840 Census. Reuben is indicated as born in Virginia in 1850/1870 Census. I have found the Pulaski Co "earliest" marriage record of Samuel Shadowen to Sarah James on 25 Dec 1837. Samuel is indicated as born in KY in 1870 Census. Does anyone know of definitive research documentation on Reuben/William AND/OR on who/when/how the Shadoan family came to Pulaski Co. ?? Any Birth/Death Records, Tombstones, Family Bibles, Wills, Marriages, etc. that would help definitively document these lines ? Am aware of "Chaudoins of Virginia 1750 to 1900", but am a bit skittish about the quality of that document. Any assistance / clues would be greatly appreciated. Also happy to share results of Census research. Thanks much. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. His daughter Emily had a daughter Julia who married my Great Grandfather John Lee Williamson Jr. The family recently found (also in an old trunk) a recipe for tanning hides, among old papers of John Lee Williamson's. It began as "A Recipe for Tanning Hides. The first thing to be done: soak hard hides until soft. Then to 30 gallons of water, add one peck of lime and one peck of ashes" I was just wondering if this could have been from this old recipe even though it was in Julia's mother in law's handwriting. Do you have the actual recipe or just the receipt for it? Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We have in our family files that James C. CHAUDOIN was a s/o David C. CHAUDOIN (1766-1839 Marion Co., TN) and Mary DAVID (1773-1853). James C. CHAUDOIN (1795-1837) is said to have married perhaps a Mary or Anne RANKIN, but this is not proven, so is still controversial. We do have in this family a Pleasant CHAUDOIN (1831-1914), s/o Benjamin S. CHAUDOIN (1793-1869 Green Co., KY) & Henrietta GUPTON. The given name of Pleasant is not known to be elsewhere in the family. I note within your message you have the same given name in Pleasant C. DAME. Does any of this perhaps "ring a bell" for you? We are missing maiden names for many wives, so perhaps a CHAUDOIN lady married a DAME fellow. Audrey Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have in my possession a document dated June 23, 1834 which includes a handwritten receipt for the English Bend tanning process recipe. The purchaser of this recipe was James Chaudoin, the seller was John G. Jones. I descend directly from John Dame, Sr. of Jasper, Marion County TN through his son, Valentine Dame. This document was in an old trunk which has only recently come into my possession. The trunk had belonged to John Dame's grandson, Pleasant C. Dame, who was born circa 1830 in Marion Co TN and died 1901 Laclede Co MO. The document must have been at one time in the possession of either my grx4 grandfather, John Dame, or his son, Valentine Dame, who would have brought it with him to the state of Missouri around 1841. I am not aware of any connection between the Chaudoin and Dame families, other than these families lived fairly close to each other in Marion Co TN in 1830 and the men were apparently tanners by trade. Can someone please give me a connection between the Dame and Chaudoin families that might explain why this document would have spent the last 174 years in an old trunk belonging to my Dame family? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Our first place of abode was in a half-dugout, tucked away in the backwoods, where the owls hooted eerie in the dark hours of the night, and song-birds made music in the daytime. The first school I attended was made of logs and we had hewn hickory logs for seets. My teacher was large two fisted red haired Irishman, who upon the least provocation displayed a most violent temper that sounded for all the world like a raging ______ hissing in the distance. He demanded, and usually received from his pupils perfect lessons at the business end of a dogwood switch, which he kept an abundant supply at all times within easy reach. I could go on Mr. Chaudoin, and elaborate on my boyhood days in the Indian territory, but I am not sure you would be interested. So., I would be very glad to here (sic) from you, telling me a bit about yourself, and anything also which yo think I ought to known. 1. [CHAUDOIN] Unknown CHAUDOIN family connections: Judge L. E. Chaudoin, etc.

    3. Who is Judge L. E. Chaudoin? Who is Eliot C. Chaudoin? Is there really a Chaudoin, France? Were there CHAUDOINs in Canada? Does anyone have any information on this family line? Audrey ********************** >From the records/papers of R. S. Sanders as sent to him by and with a comment from Jeter Grimsley: "CHAUDOIN TEXAS BRANCH LETTER WRITTEN BY Judge L. E. CHAUDOIN PAGE 11 PETE OLRYOD MATL DATED Nov 16, 1981 Davis, Oklahoma Feb. 2, 1948 Mr. and Mrs. Eliot C. Chaudoin, I returned home Sunday for Palestine; and, as promised in my letter written there, I am writing you again. On seeing your name in the telephone directory, I recalled that in 1902 father and I visited a brother of his in Denton Co., Texas, and whsoe named was Henry Chaudoin. According to my recollection, my uncle Henry had 6 daughters and one son whose name was Eliot Odell. The similarity in yours and his names interested me, so I took the liberty to call your residence. The person who answered advised that you were at your office; and, upon being furnished with your number, I called there and was informed that you were busy at the time. So I again dialed your residence, and talked briefly with Mrs. Chaudoin. Due to the heavy snows the bus schedules, between Ft. Worth and Palestine had been suspended so I had planned to remain overnight at the Texas Hotel. I had hoped to see you, but immediately after talking with Mrs. Chaudoin, announcement was made that the schedules were being resumed and a bus would leave for Palestine at once. I barely had time to get aboard. However, I soon had reason to wish that I had not gotten on the bus. Everything went well until we got passed (sic) Dallas, where the road became heavily laden with ice and the driver began to experience considerable difficulty in keeping the bus on the pavement. Whenever he stopped to either take on or discharge passengers, it required quite a bit of time and a good deal of skillful manipulation to ge the bus in motion again. It was with a great feeling of relief when we finally arrived in Palestine, with limbs intact. Now a few words as to the Chaudoin tribe. I know very little about my father's people. But according to the information I have, my great-great grandfather came from Chaudoin, France, a small village in France and named after one of his ancestors, who settled in Canada, where my great-grandfather was born, who upon reaching his majority, migrated to Kentucky, and settled in or near Somerset, which is approximately 30 miles of Bowling Green. There my grandfather was born, the 13th of 14 children there being 13 boys and 1 girl. Of these my [father] and the uncle mentioned above are the only ones I ever saw. I even do not know the names of his others brothers, although I do remember that his sister's name was Mary, which is also the name of my grandmother. Whatever became of the 12 brothers and sister, I never knew. However, I do know they have children and grandchildren scattered in several of the western and Southwestern states. For instance, Joe Chaudoin resides in Clifton, NM, and is Sheriff. Henry Chaudoin, evidently a son of one of my father's older brothers, is city manager of Norman, Oklahoma. Then there's Lesly J. Chaudoin of Marlinger, Texas, who served a numer of years there as District Judge. Jacob Chaudoin is a minister of the Gospel and pastor of the Baptist Church in Duncan, Oklahoma. It appears that wherever you find a Chaudoin, he has a good position or job, and doing quite well with himself and family. Of course, this is not to be construed as pinning a bouquet on myself or 'tootin my own horn" notwithstanding I have always been able to with with head above water even if the going did get a bit rough at times. I am 88 years young, bald, and wear store bought teeth when I am not carrying them in my pocket. 1. [CHAUDOIN] Y-DNA Project Update, Discussion List, Roll Call, etc.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: audreyhancock Surnames: HANCOCK, SHIELDS, COX, RUBERT, SHUFFETT, CHAUDOIN, GUPTON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.chaudoin/202/mb.ashx Message Board Post: CHAUDOIN BULLETIN / MESSAGE BOARD POST Hello CHAUDOIN researchers: We have now had 5 participants in our CHAUDOIN, etc. Y-DNA PROJECT. However, all men participating do not bear the CHAUDOIN surname, so we are still in the dark as to how those bearing the CHAUDOIN surname may or may not match with others. In other words we do not have any base DNA participants for the CHAUDOIN surname or even SHADOWEN, SHADOWENS, SHADOAN, etc. who claim descendancy from Francois CHAUDOIN. You may check this out at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~grannyapple/CHAUDOINetc DNA/RESULTS.html or access via: http://tinyurl.com/488xe We have our first participant bearing the CHAUDRON surname, so at the present that person stands alone. His results do not match with any other participants. We need CHAUDOIN, SHADOWEN, SHADOWENS, SHADOAN, etc. men who bear one of the surnames and who deem themselves to be descended from Francois CHAUDOIN to participate. Some/One of the SHADDEN/SHADDAN participants may be a match for CHAUDOIN, but until we get some known representatives to participate, we cannot go further. Are there any CHAUDOIN, SHADOWEN, SHADOWENS, SHADOAN individuals willing to participate for your branch? Sometimes various family members share the cost to sponsor an individual. Remember: DNA used is called junk DNA and does not give away medical DNA tendencies, which some tend to believe. If interested, please visit: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~grannyapple/CHAUDOINetc DNA/DNA HOME.html or access via: http://tinyurl.com/488xe So, if we are to prove CHAUDRON & CHAUDOIN are not related and that our ancestor Francois CHAUDOIN is not a CHAUDRON descendant, we must have some CHAUDOIN participants...and that person must be a male bearing the CHAUDOIN surname or one of its variants who has a paper trail back. If you have "Real Player" or the like, you might find this short film very interesting. It is entitled: "Did she marry her cousin?" Click on this website. Sometimes a commercial comes up first, then the presentation. I'm trying to get names and how they are kin on the pictures that Iona left. Some she wrote names on and some she didn't. Also Ella Pierce Wallace (Iona's mother in law) kept journals during the late 1930's. I'm trying to go through them and match up info with pictures. Will be glad to share information with you. 3. After closely looking at the picture, I think some of the people may not be identified correctly. I have seen the photo before in my grandparents house, and may have others that will help. I have moved recently, and need to find them, so it may take a few weeks. I do know that Charlie is next to Oakley, directly behind Joe Daniel. The tall, unknown male next to Arthur, I may be Clarence, with his wife, Sarah (Davis) Chaudoin, next to him (woman with glasses/short hair). Although I can't see enough to tell for sure, my grandmother had short dark hair, so I am pretty sure that is her. Their son, (my dad) Joseph W Chaudoin ( they called him Dub) is directly between them and just behind Rual. I'll show this picture to my sister, brother and mom this weekend to be sure.
