ALL, I do seem to have started something. However I do believe some people may be straying from the issue. I asked the Group's opinion about submitting the Chase database to Broderbund. From my point of view if ONE person only, who has contributed data to the Database, objects then that is it I would not send it. It is obvious that those who want to send their data to Broderbund are free to do so. One thing has been made clear to me and that is that there appear to be some who do not understand the wording of Broderbund's Copyright statement and have been concerned that if they gave their data to Broderbund then they, the contributor, would not be able to use it, for publication, in the future. That is not so and Broderbund, I think, make this clear in statements they make. My views on Broderbund's Copyright are well known but I would be seriously concerned if data I contributed turned up on one of their CD's without my permission. I have taken the trouble to ensure I can identify my own data where ever it appears. This concern has nothing to do with me protecting that data. It has everything to do with someone claiming ANY type of right or restriction on it and for Broderbund to say they would restrict the use of MY information, to ANYONE, without my permission,I find distasteful. I was however prepared to go along with it if no one else objected Keith Hume Keith Hume, email khume@netcomuk.co.uk CHASE-L Website at:- http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/c/chase/index.html http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~khume/home.html Kent,England Researching:- HULME,DAWSON,(In Lancs.)
