It's been a while and since we have some new members I am going to send this request again. I am seeking the parents of Frederick Chase listed below. The parents, Mathias & Rachel, may be his parents or his uncle and aunt, but we can find no proof of them other than from a couple of census and military national archives. My cousin thinks that a Mathias listed in one of the census below may be his father, or an uncle. These are my cousins notes: Fred enlisted for three years in the army on Nov. 11, 1862 in Battle Creek MI. He was a 24 year old 5.6" tall blue-eyed sandy-red haired and fair complected farmer. He joined Company B of the 26th Infantry, Michigan Volunteers and later Company A of the 8th Michigan Cavalry. He mustered in Nov. 12, 1862 in Jackson, MI. He spent most of the Civil War in the Army of the Potomac. He guarded the White House Landing (the boat dock on the Virginia side) marched up and down the penninsula in the Battles of the Wilderness, and spent a lot of time in the hospital. He came down with the measles (which ruined his eyes), a foot injury, and chronic dysentery. He was discharged in Sept. of 1865 in Nashville, TN and never went home.
