While channel surfing today I ran across a televised auction. They were auctioning off a document from the late 1700's signed by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. It was a "passport" which gave one Rueben Chase and his boat "The Betsy" permission to travel with a shipment of coffee to England. The document went for $13K, due to the Washington and Jefferson signatures. No further mention was made of this Rueben Chase. I have a Rueben Chase ancestory who married one Hannah Estey but I think he would have been too young at this time, and can't make an immediate connection. I hope this is useful to someone.
