Folks, I don't use FTM so anything you find irrelevant please disregard. Every genealogy program should have, and most do have a "split file" utility, for splitting off family groupings from the main database. The file that you successfully split off, is now on it's own...and therefore can be converted into GEdcom in the normal way. It is an "electronic splitting" not printing off a report , or saving as RTF or anything .. You should end up with a New File, named something DIfferent..and then, using that file as the base, you go "Export Gedcom" or "create gedcom"... If your program will NOT do this...it is a basic and serious flaw in it's philosophy to my mind. Derek
