I think the author of the article sums the problem up very nicely and supports the view that a FACT cannot be copyrighted only the way it is presented. It is also accepted here by Government archives, as I have said, that provided there is no commercial gain involved they positively encourage copying of records. Even where gain is involved they also tend to encourage the use of their records to write or compile an original work especially if you offer it to them for sale in their bookshops. WHEN I get the time I intend to write a book about the end of the War of Independence and in particular the evacuation fro New York.
