Now there IS something to throw a spanner in the works! PURCHASE!? The prefix PER, pronounced the same as PUR means "by". Perhaps,only perhaps you may have been right and these PURCHASE may have been connected or just possibly they got the name from living "by"(per) the local Chase or Hunting ground.
