To all descendants of (the Loyalist) Reuben Chase through William, William Jr., John, Isaac, and Isaac: I thought I would share a line from one of the letters I have, written by Salome Johnson to her stepson, Edward Mills London, in 1834. Salome was the granddaughter of Reuben Chase, being his daughter Charlotte's child. Salome's stepson, Edward Mills London, would married Deborah Chase, daughter of Eben/Epenitus Chase (Charlotte's brother), in 1837. Salome writes to Edward: "Remember me to Unkle Epinetus Chase, and all his family" Edward was living near Epenitus at the time, and would eventually marry his daughter, Deborah. I thought I would write this to clarify why I believe Reuben's son, listed as being born Eben, was a misspelling of Epen (short for Epenitus). Any comments? Lisa Zajkowski
