    1. [CHASE-L] Dartmouth, MA
    2. Hi all you Chasers. I am going to Mattapoisett, MA, next week and hope to do some "chasing" of my own. (Mattapoisett is between New Bedford and Cape Cod). I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of good Chase places to visit in the vicinity -- especially Dartmouth -- or if any one has done any vital records research in that town (the area is crawling with Chases!) I have traced my grandfather, Walter Bradford Chase (1903-86) from Boston to William Henry Chase (1868-1955) born in Taunton to Henry Allen Chase (1842-1920) believed to have been born in Dartmouth to Jeremiah Chase (died October 11, 1858) married to Cloe P. in Dartmouth on Feb. 16, 1834. Most of the dates I got from my mother's cousin; I discovered the towns through the NEHGS indexes to vital statistics. Interestingly, in both the Taunton and Dartmouth indexes, the NEHGS spells the name as Chace. My grandfather and his father definately spelled their name Chase. Cloe P. Chace is listed in the Broderbund 1870 Census Index living in Taunton. No mention has ever been made in my family of a name change! Also both Henry Allen Chase (Chace) and his brother Cornelius birth dates are cited in the index as from the "Rebellion Record." Cornelius enlisted (but for what?). Does anyone know what the Massachusetts Rebellion Record was? Thanks in advance for any info/advice! Becky Goodwin Kangos
