    1. [CHASE-L] Re: CHASE-D Digest V98 #115
    2. Re: the posting about the Chase Coat of Arms: There are apparently several, as might well be expected since there are a number of distinct Chase families. Which one (if any) that a Chase decendant can properly associate with naturally is dictated by the valid linkage that can be established to a pedigree for which a coat of armour was authorized by virtue of title. I have a graphic of one that apparently has been widely used by those who want to display a Chase family device [ Arms: four golden crosses, arranged in pairs, on a red shield which bears in the corned a golden lion on a blue square; Crest: a golden half-lion holding a red cross; Motto: Forward ] Another, which is similar, but for which I do not have the graphic, is [Arms: similar to the above device; Crest: a griffin's head holding a key; Motto: 'Ne cede malis' (Yield not to temptation) ] Allegedly the first device described above was associated with the Chesham Chases, and thus has been used by decendants of Aquila and Thomas in the US based on the apparently erroneous (at least presently unconfirmable) linkage of these brothers to the Chesham Chase line.
