Salmon Portland Chase, decendant of Aquila Chase of Newbury MA [Ithmar (6); Dea. Dudley (5); Judge Samuel (4); Daniel (3); Ens. Moses (2); Aquila (1)]. Salmon, a force to be reckoned with in the early days of the Republcan party, was Gov. of Ohio, Sec. of the Treasury under Lincoln, and appointed Chief Justice of the US in 1864. His portrait graced the $10,000 bill, which unfortunately for any who are related and would like one as a momento, is no longer in circulation.
