(Margaret A. Kane) and Elizabeth (Hooper T. Farrow). William married second Sarah Kezar and had six children, Sarah (Andrew Johnson - six children), George M. (died as a Civil War prisoner), William Harrison (Carrie Loomis Judd), Ann (Jonathan Long), Samuel (Myra Murry), and Ruth (John B. Murray - at least one son Clyde, lived in Oshkosh, Wisconsin). From "Descendants of Samuel Chase of New Brunswick," by Guy B. Chase, St. Paul, MN, printed by Ledger Publications, Inc., Balsam Lake, WI, 87 pp., publishing date not stated, but appears to be 1977 from the LOC #77-389. The one I photocopied states: "Copy No. 241 of 300." The author, Guy B. Chase, is a descendant of William and Sarah's (McPherson) son James. The book contains numerous photographs, including one of William, son of Samuel and Elizabeth. Obviously, an original can be found in the Library of Congress, and #241 can be found in the Brigham Young University Library, Provo, UT. [Jane, if you'll email me your address, I'll send you a photocopy.] I have found the family of James and Lucy (Buckstaff) Chase in the 1851 Census, St. Patrick, Charlotte Co., New Brunswick, p. 47. They were newly married, but living with them was Sarah (Kezar) Chase and her five children. The youngest, Samuel, was born in June, 1850. Ruth had not yet been born. The history of Samuel Chase referred to above states that William Chase went to California in 1851, returning in 1855. Therefore Ruth could have been born in either 1852, or 1855-56. A check of the 1860 U.S. Census for Winnebago Co., Wisconsin, should show the family of William and Sarah (Kezar) Chase, along with Ruth and her birth year. I descend through Alexis Chase, the third child of Samuel and Elizabeth (Moore) Chase. Alexis and his family were already living in Grant Co.,Wisconsin by 1850, so it is highly probable that William stayed at least some time with them on his trip to and from California. Since William was born 9 June 1801, he was about 50 when he made the trip. It sure would be interesting to learn more about his trip as a "49-er" to CA. Alexis' daughter Mary married John Hitchings (of the New Brunswick Hitchings clan, although I have never figured out exactly how). Their son William Sydney Hitchings (of Sutherland, O'Brien Co., Iowa) was my ggfather. Robert Fillerup
