    1. [CHASE-L] William Chase brass rubbing
    2. Hi, Did you know there is a brass rubbing in Middlesex County England of a WILLIAM CHASE? I discovered it when looking for ancestors names on brass rubbings. The web page listed hundreds of names of brass rubbings, but, alas, no pictures of them. The William Chase rubbing was dated 1544 which would have been after he died. I know this is too early for our William Chase, but it might be a clue as to his origins. The rubbing is located in the parish of Isleworth. Here's the address for the page. http://www.devon.gov.uk/library/locstudy/brasses.html Have fun, Sandra Davidson

    3. "Our William Chase" - do you mean William Chase of Roxbury/Yarmouth? Middlesex County is/was a county contiguous to Western London - and in fact was absorbed by Greater London in 1965. Isleworth is nearby to Heathrow airport, and was one of the "Hundreds", or special taxation districts, of Middlesex. We do know that there was a Chase family in the London area round about this time - based on the assumption that the Aquila Chase and his brother Thomas who settled in Newburyport, MA were from there or Chesham. (Chesham is 28 miles from London.) There was a Chase family in this area at this time and many people have tried to link the New World Aquila Chase with that family. Perhaps this William Chase of the brass rubbing is a part of that other Chase family, or potentially an ancestor of Aquila and Thomas. But if you are looking for origins of William Chase of Roxbury and Yarmouth, Isleworth seems a bit far afield - too much to the West. I'm still betting on Essex County and the Wivenhoe environs, including Elmstead Market, based on old records there - and the research of Ginger, Keith and now Jeffrey, among others. Jeffrey Chace - have you found any new information for us?
