Hi all, Am wondering if anyone has any info on this Chase. There is a book entitled: "Dr. Chase's Recipes or Information For Everybody." The following is a caption under a picture in the front of the book: Entered by Act of Congress in the year 1863 by A.W. Chase, M.D. Dr. Chase's Office, Corner of Main and Catherine Streets, Ann Arbor Michigan, was built expressly to enable him to introduce greater facilities to get out his "Recipes" sufficiently fast to satisfy the increasing demand for his work. The picture is of a large building...! Then, it states it is the 38th Edition, published by the Author, in 1866. In it is included a Preface to the 10th edition. Think his 1st name may be Asa.........and there is reference and a picture of (I believe it's a picture of the University of Michigan or of the U. of Ann Arbor Michigan.) Tks for any info anyone might have. Barb Chase Thompson [email protected]
http://famousamericans.net/famousamericans-cha-chi/ This is a web site title "famous Americans" , of course there are those Chases commonly well know ; plus others. However, no A. W. Chase Betcha there is a directory somewhere out there of solely medical doctors. I have been "rather" busy putting the cemetery records of my home town village; Randolph Ctr. VT into the computer, hopefully within a month to completion. I don't really expect to find any surprises as to Chases but who knows! Once I get moved to said town hopefully this summer (and summer ain't here yet in Vermont!) to "really" get involved in things. Harriet Chase
Thanks Harriet, Glad you sent that site.it's a nice one to have. Betcha you are right.......that there is one of physicians, etc. Rec'd another email fr. someone else who has a different book of his. Someone in the Michigan area may know something...........it's kinda surprising that there apears to be no info, cause he had a big factory and I believe was assoc. with Universities out there. At least it adds to Chases and places...........speaking of which, there is a softcover book written abt. my Chases.Daniel Wood Chase and family in which my Dad, Kenneth Justice Chase is pictured along with most of the Chase clan, "Apples and Cornstubble" which was written by the Monroe Co . Historian for the Roch. NY Bicentennial, telling the early life on a farm. Much of it is fr. memoirs of a Virginia Grouppe, who became a writer, and the illustrations are done by her father, an artist. She was fr. NYC * Europe and met Grandma Chase one summer while both families were living on Conesus Lake, 1 of the Finger Lakes. Gramma C took a real liking to her and had her come live on the farm during the winters for many years until the farm burned down. There usd to be Chase Rd. in Henrietta NY, a suburb of Rochester, NY. where all the Chases lived. ( My Dad's father Chas. Daniel d. of ptomaine poisoning from a bad oyster at a big holiday gatheringk I imagine, aue he was buried 1/21914, and luckily his mother was a teacher , as sooo many Chases have been..............., and moved to Roch at that time to bring up my Dad.- why....? I don't know.....!) Anyway, I remember the Chase Rd. fr. the 60's, but now it has been renamed Castle Rd as Wilmot-Castle bought up all that land. Right off Castle Rd. tho, there is a Heather Chase development which may be named for the Chases. I made a huge breakthru by tying Phebe Barnard Macy Chase to Benj Jr. and fr. there am doing pretty well filling the line way back. Just came across G. Salstrom's site last nite and now I see where Benj. who m. Mehitable Thurston ties to Daniel Wood Chase. She lst m. Coggelshall ?sp., then Daniel Wood........and this ties to the Cornells an then m??, cause her 4th hus. was Benj Sr. Chase.......! Gets confusing. But the Wood are in there too.....so I have alot of research to do.if I want to tie it allllll........together!!!!!! This is never ending....! Besides Thurston, Goddard, Tripp, Sherman, Paine all tie into this genealogy. I also have the info thru the Folgers making me a 1st cous. of Ben Franklin, abt. 8 x removed. I notice that you are really busy helping others......! You must have a lot of Chase info. Good luck with your move...a lot of work........! Sorry, I have no info on A.W. Chase but I also have a copy of the "Dr. Chase's Recipes" book, but copyrighted in 1902. Also on the cover it says "Enlarged and Improved Edition" and contains 600 pages. Published by Stanton and VanVliet Co. of Chicago. The cover is illustrated showing a nurse at the bedside of a patient. The first page has a lithograph of the good doctor. It is signed "Respectfully A. W. Chase M. D."
