The Chase men in our family are all tall. My father, David, the youngest was 5'11", his father and brothers were all taller than 6 feet. My son, Loren is 6'4". Is this true in other Chase families? It would be interesting to see if there are any special features or coloring linked to the Chase line. Our family were all blue eyed with blond hair. My nephew was interested in health histories, too. The women, all from different lines because this is my male line, were all short.
Meg Stockwell commented on Chase/Chace traits - in answer: Interestingly, my only sibling, brother David, is 6'6" tall - but I have always ascribed that to his after-school habit as a youngster of finishing a bottle of milk while standing at the refrigerator - before sitting down to a second bottle to enjoy with cookies! However, going back to one of my Chase grandfathers (I think I have six different Chase lines so far), I definitely know that he was not tall! James Chase, who served in the Continental Army in Col. Ezra Newhall's 5th Regiment from Harwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, aged 19 in 1780, was described as dark complected and short - 5'5"! That James was the son of Captain Job Chase (William, John, William, William) and Edith Bassett. The description of James Chase is from #6167 on "A Descriptive List of Men", Massachusetts Muster and Payrolls, Massachusetts Archives, Vol 225, Page 469. As for the brilliant blue eyes that seem to be a part still today of our Chace family (many of our third cousins share this trait as do my brother and my 3 year old grandson, Chace), I believe that they came into the tree about 4 generations ago from the distaff side with Mayflower descendant Lucy Arnold, wife to James Chace (Joseph Chase, Joseph, Joseph, Thomas, John, William, William).
