Chasers, I am having to choose my words carefully to get this message to the list. Rootsweb server watches for alarmist messages about v-i-r-u-s-e-s and deletes them. That is because most of them are chain letters that people pass on without any real knowledge. In other words, they are like a disease all by themselves. However, this message is for a problem that may now be among us. On the 26th, I received a message with an attachment from Don Chase. Unbeknownst to him it contained an attachment that I clicked on without checking since it was from one of us. My v-checker was old and turned off! The file had an little movie of fireworks and said "Happy New Year 1999." I knew at once that Don and I had both been had. Afterward, I only sent two messages, one to Greg and one to Meg. Meg has already warned me that my file was not attached to my message. In its place, the Happy New Year disease carrier was attached. Luckily, she did not open it. I went out and bought new software, found the bug, and killed it. Since we who are after Chases often share files, we are all exposed. Don't follow my example. Keep your v-checkers up to date. All those to whom I sent the Chase report earlier should have no concern. All those hereafter should know I am running good protection now. And, Rootsweb will not accetp attachments, for our protection.
