Powell to Elijah Cornell. Dear Uncle, For several years I have been engaged in collecting information respecting our ancestry, I wish thee might have an opportunity of perusing what I have obtained. Thinking thee might be interested in so doing. Benjamin Chace and Rhoda Upton were married 1770. Benjamin Chace and Sarah Cornell were married 1777. Elijah Cornell and Sarah Miller were married 12th mo 4th 1769. Benjamin Miller was born 1707* (*The wife of Benjamin Miller was named Mahetable). They were the parents of nine children, Charity born 1729. – Benjamin born 1731. – James born 1733. – Patience born 1735[?]. Rachel born 1738. – Mehetable, 1740. – Robert born 1742. – Mary born 1744. – and thy Mother Sarah, born 1746. I find the date of thy birth to be 10th mo. 17th 1771 but have not learned the date of the birth of thy brother Ezra Cornell [ed. NOT the Ezra of Cornell University – this is his Uncle]. If thee knows or can procure the date of Uncle Ezra’s birth and will send it to us, I shall be very much obliged to thee. We have today recived a letter from cousin Ezra [this IS the Ezra of Cornell Univ.], the family were well. He is just now very busy, was about to start for Albany. Very Respectfully thy neice Mary R.
