    1. [CHASE-L] More Obadiah - Reuben CHASE
    2. Part Three. "Genealogical & Family History of Southern New York." Cuyler Reynolds. 1913. pages 735-36. ... William CHASE is believed to be the cousin of Thomas and Aquilla CHASE. ... Many descendants of the Chase immigrants settled in Ulster County, New York, where the census of 1790 reports no less than forty- six families. The family at even that early date was widely scattered in New York and owing to lack of public records they have not been traced. (1) John CHASE, of the New York state branch, descendant of the New England family described above, was a farmer at Furnace Woods, Westchester County, NY. He married Elizabeth HAIGHT, of a family prominent from the early days in lower Connecticut and New York states and colonies. John CHASE lived to the great age of eighty-six years, and was buried at Furnace Woods. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of that village. Children, all born at Furnace Woods: Oliver, John D., Benjamin, Daniel, Herman B., Amos B., Sarah, Eliza Ann, Roseta. The sole survivor of this family of nine is Amos B. Chase, who resides in New York City. HERE IS WHERE I THINK THE CONFUSION BEGINS ON THE OBADIAH AND REUBEN CHASES. Copied from the papers of Carleton Scofield, Historian's Office of Peekskill, New York on Oct. 27, 1970 by Thelma Kilmer. The Chase family of the Town of Cortlandt and Putnam County, New York are descended from Reuben Chase who lived and died at Cape Cod, Mass. Among the children of Reuben Chase (1) was Isaac (2) who settled at what is now Carmel, Putnam County, NY. He and all his sons were soldiers in the War of the Revolution. He was a member of the Gilead Presbyterian Church, Carmel, NY. Reuben CHASE (1) Born Married Died: Cape Cod, Mass. Child. Isaac CHASE (2) Born Married Died Children: Obadiah b. 1744 d. 4 July 1800 Jude migrated to Albany Co. Lot Thomas Berry, rem. to Albany Co., NY Ann Ruth Thankful Reliance John Josiah Joel Solomon Sarah Elizabeth I think Scofield just lumped a bunch of Chase names together that happened to be in the same area. The Isaac CHASE he has listed as Isaac CASE (2) is actually Isaac CHASE (5) and Reuben was not his father. Reuben CHASE was his son. See previous posting. My advice is to be VERY CAREFUL is you use Scofield's records. He collected a great deal of material but it should be used with caution. I hope these postings aren't out-of-line with what the Chase mailing list is about. I'm hoping this will help someone else. Joan Gerrits
