    3. Hello Ruth, I was in Yarmouth and much of Cape Cod last year and even took a journey out to Nantucket. As far as I know, there is no record of where Wm and/or Mary are buried. I did stop by the Ancient Yarmouth Cemetery and there were some Chases, but no Wm nor Mary. I also visited Bass Hole near which the Chase family is said to have settled in the mid 1600's. There is a boardwalk there that goes out over the marsh which is quite nice. Even if the graves are not able to be found, Cape Cod is a wonderful area and a drive on 6-A Highway is wonderful (not 6, which is the main thoroughfare, 6-A runs parallel to it through all of the little towns). Here is a nice map of the Cape: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&cat=&address=&city=Yarmouth&state=MA&zipcode = I went by Sturgis Library in Barnstable and investigated an interesting genealogy of the Chase family that was precipitated by a request of a lawyer to do a title search back in 1925. http://www.sturgislibrary.org/resources/special/archives/chase.php The document was very interesting, but did not really shed any new light on the Chase Family for me. If you do go to Cape Cod, make sure you go by Plimoth Plantations which is a realistic mock-up of Plymouth Colony in the year 1627 three years before the arrival of the Winthrop Fleet. It is a very interesting "living" museum and give's one the feel of what it must have been like to live in Massachusetts back at the time William and Mary Chase lived in Boston and Cape Cod. Also, make sure to stop by the actual town of Plymouth and visit the Plymouth Rock and the replica of the Mayflower (no, Wm and Mary did not arrive on the Mayflower, but it is a ship of similar size and build as the ships that were in the Winthrop Fleet). You can get an idea of what their nine weeks on the Atlantic must have been like in such a vessel. Nantucket is a wonderful little island and the Whaling Museum there (as well as is the one in New Bedford) is wonderful. You can find the grave of Owen Chase (of Whaling Ship Essex and Moby Dick fame) near the town of Nantucket. Owen's house is also still there. Of course, if you are going to go to that area, you must also visit Boston which is a wonderful city. Make sure you walk the Freedom Trail and visit Faneuil Hall, Bunker Hill (Breed's Hill), the USS Constitution, the Old North Church, The Granary Cemetery (Paul Revere, Sam Adams, Benjamin Franklin's Parents, John Hancock, etc), Boston Common, and of course the New England Historical and Genealogical Society is absolutely fantastic. It's in the Copley Place area on Newbury Street. I would recommend a visit to Providence, Rhode Island, and to Fall River, Massachusetts as well. Providence is a wonderful little city and the Rhode Island Historical Society is located there on Hope Street. Fantastic collection of records from all over New England and especially Quaker Records. It is the repository for the New England Yearly Meeting Archives. A visit to the North Burial Ground Quaker Cemetery will reveal many Chaces and the Swan Point Cemetery is simply beautiful as well as containing the graves of dozens and dozens of Chaces and Chases. In Fall River stands the Lizzie Borden House. Well worth the visit. It is now a Bed and Breakfast and you can actually stay in the room in which Lizzie's stepmother was murdered. A husband and wife own the house now and give tours. I know it sounds like a lot of driving, but Massachusetts and Rhode Island are so small that the drive between Boston and Providence is less than an hour and the rest of the locations I mentioned are all very close. Anyway, if you want to know anything else, let me know. I have only found the graves of all of my Chace ancestors back to William's great-great grandson, Joseph, who was born in 1762. Before that (Moses, Joseph, William Jr., William Sr.), I have no idea. But, I do have copies of all of their wills except for William Jr. The wills can be found at the NEHGS in Boston on microfilm. 3. Hello to All, Does anyone out there know if the cemetery where Wm. & Mary Chace is buried, is where anyone can see it ? I am "thinking" of trying to get to Mass. and maybe get some pictures of the cemetery and any other Chace places around that area, for my scrapbook. If there is nothing to see, maybe I won't try the trip. I just would like to know if anyone has been out there and maybe has seen the area. I'd sure appreciate any thoughts on the area. Thanks in advance Ruth in Florida

    3. What I found is that there was a rash of murders and killings during the elections of 1868. Check out this article which also mentions Judge Valentine Chase being murdered: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/HINDS/2001-11/1006684346 and this: http://delta.ulib.org/ulib/data/moa/3f6/e8e/3bc/281/d5c/3/data.txt It seems that the white inhabitants of Franklin thought that Judge Chase had unrightfully been elected and had insulted the community: "The homicide of certain persons who have been installed exclusively by the votes of the negroes and a few white strangers and outcasts, in highly responsible judicial offices in the country are due to the exasperation produced by a system of oppression, wrong, insult and spoliation, which were never exercised towards a brave and spirited people without producing like results." Although a fairly poor job of OCR you can read about the incident in some detail. 2. I just found a notation in my Grandfather's Bible giving vital statistics about his mother, father and brother. The interesting stand alone notation says: "Mrs. Wooden died in 1890. She probably would have died in New York, less likely in Iowa or elsewhere. I suspect this Mrs. Wooden was a CHASE or HAVENS relative. Does anyone have any Mrs. Wooden in their line? 3. Found another CHASE in the family tree (I don't know what it is; they just keep popping up)... My GGG Aunt Julia Ann LATOURELLE's second husband (and father of 10 of her 13 children) was one Shadrack Schuyler SPAULDING. His sister, Tryphene Miles, married Parker L CHASE on 8 Dec 1842 (according to a WorldConnect tree at RootsWeb). Parker L and Tryphene, and their daughter, Viola, appear in the 1850 US census in Charleston, Orleans, VT; Parker L is enumerated as a farmer (no surprise). There is another Parker CHASE, age 65 and born in New Hampshire, in Charleston in 1850 (Parker L's dad?). In 1880, Parker L and Tryphena M are in Alto, Fond du Lac, WI. Anybody have a connection? 3. Wow it really does bear a likeness to Salmon P. Chase. I have a copy of Salmon P. Chase in my hand and held it up to the picture on the bill and wow the bill photo is an older man then on the book but it really looks like the same man. Here's a copy of the store with a picture of the bill, http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/strange/news-article.aspx?storyid=53428 Largest bill I ever saw was $1,000 while I worked in a bank a customer brought in 3 of them to deposit.
