Hello Barbara, Are you wanting to know whether William Chase was a Pilgrim? If that is your question, the answer is yes and no. William Chase was NOT a Pilgrim in the sense of the particular group of protestants who emigrated from England first to Holland and then to Plymouth in 1620 arriving in the Mayflower. Only those immigrants are referred to as Pilgrims (with a capital P). However, in the general sense of the word, William was somewhat of a pilgrim (lowercase p) in that he travelled in a foreign land - first from England to Massachusetts Bay Colony, then to Scituate and eventually to Yarmouth where he died. Pilgrim from www.m-w.com 1 : one who journeys in foreign lands : WAYFARER 2 : one who travels to a shrine or holy place as a devotee 3 capitalized : one of the English colonists settling at Plymouth in 1620 Jeffrey Chace http://www.chace.demon.nl
With all the emailing going on the list, I thought this would be a good time to repost my queries. I am looking for the parents of Susanah Chase b. March 7, 1803 in Montreal. Susanah in 1821 she married Jeremiah Cramer b. 1800 in New Jersey. A group of Brooks, Chase and the Cramer families moved through Canada to Michigan, then Illinois, and finally settled in Iowa. We believe Charolette Chase Brooks was Susanah's sister and John Chase was her brother. Susanah d. before 1880, so we can't see where she says her parents are from. Charolette said her parents were from Penn. We came across a Brooks line, where they mentioned a book, I've been unable to find. The book states a large group of citizens from Chester, Windsor County, Vermont moved to Canada. The group consisted of Harris, Chase, and Brooks families. Does this sound familiar or strike any bells with anyone? Thanks for any and all help you can give. Judi
Barbara, has anyone sent you any data in your inquiry? If not, I can as my wife's line goes through James' other wife Alice Anthony. I only have one child listed for the second marriage of James--Isaac. I can take you backward to William and Mary. After that there are many different opinions on whom were the parents of William. Hi All, Hope someone can send me this info. My Lydia Goddard was the 2nd w. of James. Thanks. Barb Chase Thompson
Hi Russ. Am curious about your statement that James Chase homesteaded in North Dakota in 1880. My great grandfather homesteaded in the Dakota Territory at the same time. Do you know where the James Chase homestead was located? Thanks. Barbara Chase
Dolores, Richard may have already answered your question but since I am not sure I will answer your question. You wrote: Am I correct in assuming that female members of the Chase clan cannot have a definitive DNA reading? Dolores Chase Jarden Dolores, there are several tests. Our Chase group was interested in determining if there was any relationship between Aquila, Thomas, and William Chase. These three Chase men were the earliest Chase families to come to America. The DNA results of the Aquila descendants differ from the results of the William descendants. This shows that there is no common ancestor between the two. As far as Thomas and Aquila, while there is probably a relationship between the two, we have not had a Thomas descendant with proven research to take the test. We were also interested in securing additional proof of our ancestors. The Y chromosome test results will show if you have a common ancestor with any of the other test takers. We are lucky that we have descendants of both Aquila and William with proven research. Don't forget, Y chromosome passes from father to son--not to the daughter. So for this reason only, this test is not for females. There is another test, the mtDNA test which the females can take but because females normally take the surname of their husband the results are hard to read. The mtDNA passes from the mother to both her son and daughter but only the female passes it to her off-springs. Your mother, your maternal grandmother, her mother, etc. would all have the same mtDNA. To be honest with you, I don't know what I am looking at when I look at the results. An interesting book about mtDNA is "Seven Daughters of Eve" where the author lays out a premise that all people descend from these seven women. This type of DNA was used in identifying the family of the Russian Monarchy who were murdered and found many years later. I believe it was Prince Philip of England who furnished matching mtDNA to help I.D. the bodies. The Prince descended through the same maternal line as the deceased. I hope this helps. Charlie Scott
Have some info on Darling Chase. Have been looking for his parents for 10 years to make a link to the known Chase lines. My line is: John William Chase b 12 sept 1911 pope county Il near stonefort. Willis Andrew Chase b mar 1876 Carrier Mills Saline County IL. William Chase b 1851 TN Darling Chase b abt ? M Anna O'Neal b abt 1815 TN abt 1835 TN. I believe we are dealing with Two Darling Chases The 1820 US federal census Shows a Darling Chase in Wayne Co.NC head of house hold age 45 One other person at age 45 and one 10 to 16 . This would make Darling born about 1775. and the one 10 to 16yrs I believe is the Darling Shown on the 1860 federal census Henderson Co. TN . Near Scotts Hill TN age 65. The only chase I can find on the Chase list that comes close to these Dates is a Darwin with a question mark ? I have been to NC and IL searchin for records. I only have one other avenue to pursue and that is part of Wayne Co.NC was Dobbs County. I need to search for records there. Most of the birth and marriage records in Wayne Co. were burned during the Civil War. Maybe together we can break thru this brick wall. I am glad to have someone else looking. I have other info on my line if you need any dates ect. Hi Dick I had emailed family tree to update my info. What I can tell you is if you check the book seven generations page 116 Dudley born 1778 I feel was the father of Levi Chase who was father of James Chase who homesteaded in North Dakota in 1880. Dudley died in Mexico Oswego NY in 1844. Levi was born in 1815 in lower canada and later lived with his family in Mexico Oswego, I have his obituary. He stated his father was born in New Hampshire. Dudleys last will and testament lists his wife as Susan which I believe was Susan Batchelder of Gilmanton NH. Dudleys son Levi named one of his boys Dudley Leavitt Chase. Dudley (1778) middle initial was L. Charlie Scott, My brother, Robert, took the test for the 12 markers. He matched to William's line but we have been unable to make the connection with our research. I would like to order the 37 marker test through you. I am also interested in taking the test for the female line - is that possible as well? Thanks for doing all this work! Hi to all of the Chase group. I have been busy the past year working on our 50-year high school reunion and various activities with the Sons of the American Revolution. I have also been learning to play the fife. I will be visiting Yorktown in October for the 225th anniversary of that event. I will be laying a wreath, from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, during the memorial service. Some of the best Fife and Drum Corps in the country will be there along with most of the nation's military bands. I look forward to hearing how the fife should be played. I have not been sending DNA reports because we have not had anything new to report. For those of you who match the descendants of Aquila or William, but have not found the link to prove all the way back to one of those gentlemen, you might consider upgrading to a test that shows more markers. It is possible that when you upgrade to the 37 marker test we will start seeing some differences between the descendants of the sons of Aquila and William. This could help you get on the right path. If some of you with proven ancestry also upgrade, this will give us a base to start with and might help the others. Family Tree DNA lowered the price on upgrades. I recently upgraded from 25 to 37 markers and it was only $49.00. For those of you interested in taking the DNA test and want more information you can either visit the Family Tree DNA Co. site or send me an e-mail and I will get in touch with you. By the way, our group rate is better than the ones listed on the FTDNA site. I did not see Doug's e-mail. I did see Richard's answer and it looked good to me. Charlie Scott
