A REMINDER: we need the URLs -- that's the internet address, for you non- techie-nerd types -- (and brief description of what the site contains) for web sites that you have found are potentially good sources of CHASE family information for the Genealogy Links page on the CHASE web site. For this page, we want links to sites that contain searchable information, as opposed to simply archives of sources. Please, as a help to your fellow Chase researchers, send your list to me this week at: rachase@earthlink.net Dick Chase
Re: the posting about the Chase Coat of Arms: There are apparently several, as might well be expected since there are a number of distinct Chase families. Which one (if any) that a Chase decendant can properly associate with naturally is dictated by the valid linkage that can be established to a pedigree for which a coat of armour was authorized by virtue of title. I have a graphic of one that apparently has been widely used by those who want to display a Chase family device [ Arms: four golden crosses, arranged in pairs, on a red shield which bears in the corned a golden lion on a blue square; Crest: a golden half-lion holding a red cross; Motto: Forward ] Another, which is similar, but for which I do not have the graphic, is [Arms: similar to the above device; Crest: a griffin's head holding a key; Motto: 'Ne cede malis' (Yield not to temptation) ] Allegedly the first device described above was associated with the Chesham Chases, and thus has been used by decendants of Aquila and Thomas in the US based on the apparently erroneous (at least presently unconfirmable) linkage of these brothers to the Chesham Chase line. There's no present-day st. David that I know of.... Also, 1775 as a birth date, probably means he was born elsewhere..New Brunswick wasn't new Brunswick ( it was Nova Scotia) until abt, 1784.....There was a family of Stephen, and Zebdee and some others in Cornwallis N.S. before 1783 1784 (Loyalists landing).... There was an Ammi Chase in Port Rosedale, a James Chase down in Cumberland CO.... .Here's Samuel Chase, b. 11 Nov 1782 in Cornwallis, NS son of Jethro and Dorothy (Cone) Chase!!!!!!!! You'll find that in John Carroll Chase's genealogy of William see family # 129...... Incidentally, of three reference works on the Loyalists, none mentions Samuel as coming in on the 1783-84 fleets out of revolutionary America. So he must have been here, walked over, or came later Derek
Hi all, The San Francisco Bay area finally has some wonderful sun! I was taking a walk in this much missed sun, and I noticed a few homes with family crest-type signs displayed. Does anyone know if there is a Chase family crest (or symbol)? If so, let me know...I would love to get a picture of it, or a digitized file of it. Oh no! Fog is approaching! Back outside for me! Chase Group, I don't know why the address that I posted about the Illinois land records doesn't work since I pasted that address direct from the web site to the e-mail page. I suggest that you use a search engine and type in: "Illinois public domain land sales" and that should get you there. Lonnie Chase
I am looking for the origins of Samuel Chase b. abt 1775 and d. 1810 in St. David, New Brunswick, Canada. His wife was Elizabeth Moore. A.. with additions by Florence Adams Chase of Chicago, Ill., and Angus Ferris Chase of New York. This traces the lineage of the branch of the Chase family from William, born between 1584 and 1595 in England who died between 4 May, 1659, the date of his will, and 13 May 1659. I would like to send a copy to you by mail or by fax if you will give me a postal address or a Fax number. This document may be of interest to any number of "Chases" who are interested in their family history. I married Hazel Chase of Ithaca, NY in 1942, and we have lived in Florida for almost 14 years. A number of the Chase family with which we are connected live in this area of the country. Look forward to hearing from you. My name is Roland G. Schramm.
Hello all, Somewhere I have seen a reference work cited, by Gladys Marie CHASE, regarding the descendants of William Chase ... Surprise surprise ! The NEHGS doesn't have it and doesn't know how I can obtain it ! I just had e-mail from their sales co-ordinator. So if anyone knows of this book, which apparently was printed in 1985 or thereabouts, please let me know. Thank you Derek Visit the Chase ancestral collection http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/c/chase/index.html

Hello List, I can't remember if I posted this queery on the List yet, I know I have it in the CHASE Gedfourm, so if this is a repeat, forgive me, but I'm not having much luck on my CHASE line yet. This is the information I have on my grgrgrgrandmother's family: Charles S. CHASE, d. CHASE, I do not know any information on Rufus, except that he was an Episcopalian minister who was rector of Emanuel Episcopal Church of Wakefield, MA from 1905 to 1912, when he was transfered to some place in CA. William A. CHASE, b.abt 1854; d.April 28, 1907, he married a Louisa?; He purchased a burial plot in the Evergreen Cemetery, Portland, ME, in Mar.1886. CHASE, b.abt 1857; d.April 21, 1833, she married a William MASON, she resided with her brother Rufus, as housekeeper, from 1905 - 1912. Dear Derek et all, Now don/t laugh all of you but hopefully you do what I do. I set aside some of the messages with notes like---get back to this one and try toGET THE ANSWERS. Then things pile up and you get busy ---and you know the rest of the story. Anyway, I apologize.--- Derek made reference to the Freeport Historical Society in Maine--a typewritten genealogy by Thomas Dunning. Also, Derek mentioned the connections with the Merritt family that I believe also connects with the Soule family---or am I wrong? Is there any of that material that would be of interest to the others in this group? Thanks Ginger in Az.
Attn Derek: To Derek and all, I havaddressed this to Derek because I rather think he has done research in this area of the U.S. extensively, but still some of the rest of you perhaps have much to contribute too. Here's my question: If you are connected to William of Cape Cod ,where in Maine is the best place to do research on the descendants who settled in Maine? Where was their largest concentration? I know that William's descendants were connected to George Soule, the Pilgrim who came over on the Mayflower and I also know some of that name settled in Maine as I have interesting info. about them --the current group that is. In your opinion which Historic Society or library would be the best to visit if your time is limited? Have I troubled you enough? Another comment. Now that this group has been organized perhaps people like our Chase CNN will be interested too. Ginger in Az.
Hi Rose Raab, Did you receive the Chase info. by snail mail o.k.? As you probably already know there were at least 4 others who expressed interest in seeing the paper or scroll. I had no idea it would cause such a stir of interest. Anyway, will you share? Those of you interested just let Rose know. O.K.? Thanks a bundle. I 've asked this before but will try again since we have had additions to our wonderful group. Do any of you know about the Chases of Waterbury, Conn.? Do you know whether they connect with Aquila, Thomas or William? They are the Chases who owned the old Waterbury clocks and I have some interesting data somewhere that I wish to keep if they are connected to William and give away if they are connected to Aquila or Thomas. Ginger in Az. P.S. Thanks, Keith for getting this whole thing OFF THE GROUND. It is well on its way to success and due to your hard work, know how, and enthusiasm---IT'S WORKING.
Was it Derek who sent this address? http://k12s.phast.umass.edu/fodonnel/beth.tm Beth Versailles in Mass.? Was this the author of the book about the History of Yarmouth, Cape Cod.? Ginger in Az. The dates I see here are Jan. 18, 1998.
This question of copyright seem never ending. In the UK publishing BMD records is only a breach of copyright if you also copy comments re the records. Here all BMD Records are the property of the Government AND the family who they are part of. Now I am part of William CHASE's family so I would not be in breach under any circumstance. If you consider --how can it be possible to copyright yours, your mother's,your g.grandmother's details so you cannot use them as you see fit? The whole thing is an absolute nonsense. The PRO here make it clear that they do not mind photocopying ANY document that has public access. How did the author of the book obtain permission to use public records? I will bet he never did! he just went there and found them.
